  1. The idea of this thread is not promoting big, recent releases, but either smaller, independent movies that fewer people might have heard of yet, or older classics that might not get that much attention any more. My list, for now: Paths of Glory (1957) One of the most powerfull war movies I have ever seen, and yet, a lot of people seem oblivious to it. It really grips you and shows you the absurdity of war in all it's ugliness. It's even more remarkable, if you consider the herioc tone most, if not all of it's contemporary war movies had. Stalag 17 (1953) The ultimate POW camp movie, imho. I prefer it to the Great Escape even. It's probably closer in tone to Hart's War. …

This is my new favorite movie. It was very n00b friendly while staying 99% true to the original Star Trek. They preserved the integrity of my childhood hero, James T Kirk, and I couldn't ask them to do anymore but they did. It was well beyond my expectations and it has returned the franchise back to it's roots. I hope it sparks a Star Trek revival. Discuss...

I was so impressed by this movie that I simply had to start a thread. DC Comics put out a graphic novel in the mid eighties and this movie is based on that comic. While the story line deviates from the comics, it definitely captures the spirit. If you like great writing, intelligent storytelling, intense action, and wonderful acting...you'll love this movie. It's politically based and it hasn't come at a better time. Cast... I am super excited about this. Days of Future Past was so amazing and was definitely what the franchise needed to give it life again. Bryan Singer is back in the sequel to First Class and Days of Future Past. The setting is the 1980s and the X-Men will have to deal with the toughest villain Apocalypse. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholaus Holt, Evan Peters and Hugh Jackman are set to return. And today Variety and Bryan Singer confirmed that Oscar Isaac will be playing the villain Apocalypse. No other cast is announced so far but young Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm will be in this. Also not sure if Gambit will feature or not. But i…
