So the idea is to post those you think are the best with the instrument. Those masters of the 6 strings that leave you at awe when listening what they are capable to do with a guitar. Those with beyond human technical abilities, incredible speed, or simply exquisite taste and clean sound. Since Rock is one of the genres where guitar is the more prominent, it may be that most posts here will be related to Rock music, but hopefully we'll see great guitarists from every other genre too. From Blues, to Jazz, Flamenco, Classical and more. I'll start with probably my favorite guitarist ever, and such a huge influence on many generations to come that star…

Blues is one of my favorites genres, and also one of my biggest influences. It is also the biggest influence and the base for almost all of today's popular music, from Jazz, going through Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Funk, Rap, and being also the origins of Rock n' Roll, Hard Rock and even the most brutal Metal genres you can imagine. One it's most basic forms is written around 3 chords and the Blue Notes, that give the Blues it's characteristic sound. On it's most traditional form it follows a 12-bar pattern around the mentioned 3 chords: I - IV - V; which means: If we are on C major, those chords would be: C major - F major and G major. But instead of going…

As the title says, lets post song that sound similar to some other. I'm not necessarily talking about plagiarism here, though it might be in some cases. But songs that at least coincidentally share some similarities in melody, harmony or such with some other work. I'll start with this song from Rival Sons' first album: Pocketful of Stones This band owes a lot of it's sound to Led Zeppelin, but that song in particular sounds a lot like these 2: Houses of the Holy And Dancing Days

This thread is for guitar solos . Though technical performing skills (singing, instrument playing) in general don't seem to be as important to today's mainstream music industry ..., I love the way a good guitar solo pours out the heart, soul and guts of a song. As I stated before, I love all of the obvious classic solos and anything by Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass and Jimi Hendrix. I love guitar solos from all genres, whether it is classical, blues, jazz, country, acoustic, rock, flamenco,"latin"...I encourage you to share your favorites, there are no right or wrong answers.

So... What do you think about Grunge? Which bands you like? For my part, I never considered it that much as a musical genre, but rather a movement. Bands with a similar background, from more or less the same area, and around the same time (Stone Temple Pilots being the exception to almost all of this). My favorite band here would be Alice in Chains, followed by Soundgarden maybe. About the poll: I only included the most know bands, though there's a lot more amazing bands from the Seattle area around the late 80s-early 90s. Such as Screaming Trees, Green River, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, etc... And of course, some music: Alice in Chains - Them Bones

You can pick and choose if you want. Rock as it was then defined was obviously huge (and probably more diverse than its ever been both style and ethnicity wise, imagine that :| ) in the 50s, but I'm assuming rock wasn't as much band oriented until the 60s? But do as you please . 50s-00s or 60s-00s. Or just one and come back to the others later...I was going to do a poll, but I wanted to give more possibility, plus its hard for a poll to make it in the music subforum trying to live on 70% ninja voters . You can disclose whether your list is your opinion of "best" or your favorites or you can do one for both if you like. Hard, soft, heavy, light, progressive, alternativ…

I couldn't find a thread for this music genre, which is a genre in itself (and a great genre!) Here's how I would define its "Genealogy", by summarizing it in therms of "Big genres", which of course have many subgenres, and by trying to give dates, knowing that it's a general "tendancy" (e.g. you still have Blues bands or Blues derivative bands today) (I know there are many many other ways to define music genres and that it's almost certain to have disagreements on this topic, but here's my way of summarizing it - feel free to agree or disagree ): Pre 1940s: It all started with Blues which, for the Rock world, the equivalent of "the Ancients"…
