But I'm trying to get rid of my Christmas pudge. I suck at diets. Calorie counting is the only way I can get myself to stick to it. I think the numbers appeal to me. :p

I'm good at diets- without it I'd be 30-40 pounds heavier.   I have many years of successful weight maintenance.  I gained 10 pounds last year and just lost 5 lb. in two weeks before christmas. Then I lost a bit more last week.

Exchange low satiation foods with high satiation foods.  If you do it well enough, you can lose weight without noticing much at all.

I cut out all potatoes, grain, oats, and replace these starches with rice.   (rice digests slower and has double the satiation of grains/potatoes/oats per calorie)  Bread , sugar, and fat are the enemy of dieting.  Cut out alcohol (which is hard for some)

I eat lean meat (chicken, fish, seafood, etc.) with bulky vegetables (frozen broccoli and asparagus are very easy and help a lot) & rice twice a day.  whole Fruits.

Then there's the timing- eat in intervals of a few hours.  Eat a high protein big breakfast.  Don't go over 800 or 1,000 before dinner time.  Turn lunch or dinner into a snack time if possible.   The caloric deficit should be such that you'll still have room to eat big when eating out.  All of this should lead to fast results.  Some discipline then, for maintenance.

Nah, I'm not that dedicated or concerned about it. My "regular" diet consists of eating French fries and fried chicken 3 or 4 times a week, so I'm just cutting that out and keeping everything else pretty much normal. Just portion control with the calorie counting, and not worrying if I go over at all.
