Problems and Suggestions for BZ - Post Here
Michael* replied to Joe > Average's topic in Site and Forum
Yeah, I mean, I guess there's a fine line between trusting our membership to follow the forum's guidelines and removing the sense of immediacy that makes posting so satisfying, but I see no reason why we couldn't have a chat about the best way to strike a balance. In the meantime, please do feel free to hit ye olde report button if you see a post that breaks the rules. -

It would probably be a rarity for us to consider doing an outright deletion of a topic lacking a bio. In general though, yes, members who create content are expected and should certainly be willing to provide some information in the body of the post, even if it's just the basics. -

It's dependent on how many posts you have, I believe. If memory serves, 100 is the threshold for the SI thread. -

Bregje Heinen made a short appearance earlier this year in The Assistant, a rather chilling drama about workplace harassment.

Awfully cool of you to post such an extensive list. I've only seen about half a dozen of the films mentioned there so I must confess, I'm not altogether sure of how big some of them were. Who would you say gave the best performances?
-
It's really only sinking in now that unfortunately most of it would have been filmed pre-Henry Cavill's moustache, so yeah, I may need to start another fan campaign.
-
I should add though that it's a terrific cast. There are few people I enjoy watching more onscreen than Malkovich in full-on scenery chewing mode.
-
Oh that's right, the film was seemingly in limbo for so long, it sort of slipped my mind that it was still meant to be happening. Honestly though, it seems like a bit of a lose-lose to me. Either they make a serviceable action flick that doesn't really capture the spirit, or they do a somewhat faithful adaptation, which I'm fairly sure would be critically panned and probably for good reason. Metal Gear's narratives worked because of Kojima's crazed melodramatic style, and as much as Vogt-Roberts seems like an honest to goodness fan of the series, I think it would be a struggle to replicate that with live action. It could be cool to have a series that retells the story chronologically, though, and animation could potentially capture the wackier elements of the story better.

I've only seen the first two episodes so far. As silly as it probably sounds, it feels like the show is simultaneously too funny and not funny enough. That is to say, I think you could get something good out of the premise by going for one of two extremes, a straight-faced, strange feel or a goofy, absurdist romp, but instead the tone is a bit inconsistent. I'll probably watch a few more for Malkovich though, I guess.

I would think so. The biggest concern of the EFL will probably be less about their duty of care, more the fact that it'll be near impossible to have a sensible league competition if half the clubs in the lower divisions have to start a new season on minus twelve points, but I'd imagine they'll exercise caution as a result. At least for the time being.

Even without the gambling allegations, the current predicament at Wigan is one of the biggest scandals in British footballing history. If in fact there is an EFL "fit and proper persons test" it probably resembles a two by two sudoku puzzle with half the squares already filled in. I fear we may be along to join them before too long, though. The recent announcement regarding the club not paying furlough top-up money was the clearest message yet that we're absolutely flipping brassic.

Some of the stuff in the original game was forced upon you too often and in rather repetetive ways, but the planning of different approaches and needing to know your enemy were great.

The last I heard of Valentina was a rather interesting self-isolation story, but yeah, by all accounts her career has wound down pretty considerably in recent years. Which is a shame really, she's way too special to be so underrated.

Alright, I do believe that brings us up to date for the time being. -
Shanina Shaik appeared alongside Steve Coogan in Greed earlier this year, although in fairness, a fairly decorative role in a satire of fast fashion billionaires probably wouldn't have been the biggest stretch.

For sure, and it's precisely for that reason that I think any potential second season really would require outstanding stories and scripts. However, I feel like Lindelof has already learned in probably the starkest way possible that if you don't know how to continue or finish a story, you shouldn't stick at it just because a network wants you to.

@Tonchan @Sunshiine @Hanni_Baros Sorry for the inconvenience, folks. The boss is aware of the problem though and is looking into fixing it.

The finale felt a bit emotionally distant to me compared to some of the previous episodes, perhaps because so much time was spent with Veidt and Triue. My only other minor quibble was that, while he did save her, I would’ve liked Jon to have had a more meaningful moment with Laurie. Overall though, the intrigue factor more than kept me going throughout, and I consider it a minor miracle that they got such a complex show to the finish line. Lindleof, King, Smart, Reznor, and Ross all outdid themselves.

I'd like to see more games that allow you to switch back and forth, like the original Star Wars Battlefront games used to. Overall though, yeah, I'm surprised they didn't work to integrate as much third person as possible. If the game were focussed primarily on customisation of weaponry it would make sense, but it seems a bit contradictory to try and get you all excited about customisation of characters and then barely let the player see them.
-
I would say the finale of S1 represented a pretty significant departure from the source material, so much so that it's hard to see how they could still do direct adaptations of the original arcs without making some fundamental changes. It would seem, a bit like Preacher the other year, that the names will be the same and that references to some of the bigger comic stories will still be there, but for the most part the show is going to start marking its own territory. That could be a good or bad thing, we'll have to wait and see.
-
Admittedly, with what promises to be a pretty vast scope for physical augmentation options, I can sort of imagine a third person version of the game could quite quickly become a nightmare to handle. That being said, although I know some folks would disagree, the Fallout series lets you switch between first for aiming and third for roaming and I think that works perfectly. This looks like a game where third could have been useful, but hopefully the pros outweigh the cons. Overall though, most of what I've seen so far reinforces my belief that the ideal time to play a CDPR game is probably about three to six months after the release date. The best version of Witcher 3 was after several months of patches and improvements.

Perhaps common sense really will prevail then, although it's a pity that it took the diminishing returns of no less than four superfluous sequels to make it happen. It's a situation similar to things like Doctor Sleep and Charlie's Angels, some properties just aren't viable any more, and that's fine. Go on with good grace. P.S. I luv Mackenzie

I can't help thinking that a lot of the goodwill towards Fallen Order is because people consider it the best Star Wars game since KOTOR. They'd be right of course, but that's a bit of a backhanded compliment. Besides the story and the visuals, it peaked for me with its brilliant opening sequence. However, I too would like nothing more than to see Respawn 'knock one out of the park' with a great sequel. As well documented as EA's faults are, Respawn were one of the few developers that seemingly hadn't become totally disfunctional after being snatched up by them.

Villeneuve's work doesn't really sell to the masses so if they turn any kind of profit, they'll have had a result. I would anticipate the reception being very similar to that of Blade Runner 2049, people who are interested in it agree that it's brilliant, there's at least one breakout performance and the box office takings barely cover the production and marketing. I should probably add that I'm still fairly iffy on whether it's possible to adapt the property into an engaging film. It would need either stark changes to be made to the source material or have to rely on some handholding, perhaps quite a lot of handholding if "one gender swapped character = bad because woke" is the most sophisticated take some journalists can manage on the subject.
