It really was a great thrill to be given 27 episodes of the show. I'm not even sure one could say it was consistently great, but it was trippy, idiosyncratic and unique, and so frequently like nothing else out there. It's sad how rare of a thing that is for television.

In keeping with the show as a whole, I imagined the finale being a bit divisive, but I liked it as a conclusion and the narrative made it clear that what eventually transpired was David's absolute best case scenario, so I suppose you'd have to say it was a happy ending of sorts. Loved the Pink Floyd sequence too.

Be that as it may, I'm still holding out hope that the rumours of DiCaprio starring in a Stan Lee biopic were true, I'd like to see him doing a bunch of cameos in superhero movies. Or better yet, he could play Jared Leto in a Suicide Squad biopic. When asked to comment, Leto is last seen spasming on the floor and speaking in tongues.

See you somewhere down the road, Jack Ross. The continuing defensive fragilities and apparent inability to create more than one or two chances per game made it very evident that lessons hadn't been learned from last season, with the Lincoln debacle certainly feeling like something of a tipping point. Rather than a legacy of failure though, I'd like to think Ross's will be one of an undoubtedly decent guy who weathered a storm of instability and, to some extent, restored order.
  6. Yeah, I'd imagine that most models probably have at least a modicum of experience in the realm of performing arts, but the sort of physical attributes that are great for modelling and especially runway work aren't necessarily good for film or TV, where perspectives are frequently very different. Also, by and large, they're presumably trained in a way that's built around posing and keeping certain postures more so than natural reactions or emotional responses.
  7. Toni Garrn made a random cameo this summer in Spider-Man: Far From Home, credited only as 'the Seamstress', an associate of Nick Fury.
  8. Fifth Element is easily in the top ten most quotable films of all time for me, and straight-up one of my favourites.

I'd considered it the most random online spat of the year until recently, when I remembered about Paul Gascoigne vs Snoop Dogg over the summer. Tough to pick a winner of course, suffice to say I hope this is just the beginning of the pundit wars. Now for Hoddle and Merson to take each other out in some kind of simultaneous kamikaze effort.

Honestly, I thought episode six was a contender for the best they've ever done. If this is the last we see of them in the show, I'm happy Jean Smart and Jemaine Clement were given such a great showcase. Particularly Smart, since the material she had to work with in S2 perhaps wasn't always the best.
  11. Yeah, I think my curiosity is such that I'll be giving it a look as well, albeit probably not on the big screen. It's an impressive supporting cast, too.
  12. There's definitely something about Cara onscreen (apart from her looks, which I guess goes without saying), she just hasn't been able to find the right roles thus far. Perhaps this new show will mark a change.
  13. Besson seems to be reaching borderline dangerous levels of self-parody these days. Tough to judge Sasha's acting ability though, all I've seen so far is the trailer and it doesn't appear to include any of her dialogue.
  14. I'm given to understand as well that the budget for the Avatar sequels will be over a billion, dwarfing that of Infinity War and Endgame. So much like the first one, it could be the greatest triumph or disaster in Hollywood history. That seems to be the way Cameron likes it, though.
  15. I must confess, I still consider Avatar's apparent failure to flourish as an object of cult fandom a bit of a curiosity. I remember Cameron spending a lot of time back in the day talking about how terrible everybody else's attempts at 3D were and I don't think he was necessarily wrong, then again his own vision for it (while so much more immersive) was very specific to the cinema experience, which is probably why it's enjoyed less TV airtime and streaming views than other movies of comparable box office performance. What price now though that someone finds a tenuous reason to do a theatrical re-release? Of course, the one big winner in all this is Zoe Saldana, since she can now say she was in the top two highest grossing movies of all time. If I'm her, I'm having that carved on my tombstone.
  16. Eternals could work out like GotG did if Marvel plays its cards right, springing lesser known characters onto the public should be an aid to really going nuts with the material. I believe Thanos is technically one of them, too. It would be fun if, in part, it turns out to be a sneaky origin story for him.
  17. Quite fun to see the niceties exchanged by the Russo brothers and James Cameron after the record was finally surpassed. What with it being the climactic point of an arc spanning 10 years and 22 movies, the kind of hype and craziness generated by Endgame could be a one-off and with that in mind, it's tough to imagine there being much scope for the record to be broken again any time soon. By the same token, it's quite impressive for Avatar, a movie that the internet claims everyone hates, to have held on for a long as it did.
  18. Yeah, the idea of a film's success being wholly dependent on whether China approves of it is one that I'm not sure I like the sound of, although I realise that's perhaps a bit of a simplistic assessment. Then again, you also have things like Suicide Squad, which outperformed both Wonder Woman and Civil War without making its way to the Chinese box office. Overall though, it seems the importance of China's role in the international stakes is growing. It can help record-breaking movies become more successful, and even renews potential for sequels to perceived flops like Pacific Rim being greenlit.

Gareth Bale to finally fulfill his dream of pulling on the jersey of his beloved Jiangsu Suning. Looking forward to hearing about his efforts to learn Mandarin, anyway.
  20. That's right, Hollywood spent a good few years trying to make Sam Worthington happen. There was Jai Courtney too, chance after chance in high profile franchise films, despite the fact that audiences didn't really warm to him. To Urban's credit, although his career perhaps never went stratospheric, he seems to have mostly avoided that kind of typecasting.
  21. Same here, it's been many years since I last had a look at the books, although I definitely feel like the material should lend itself well to the format of a miniseries. There's lot of potential of course for Stormfront to have real-world resonance and, should they choose to do a direct adaptation, a female character in that kind of role could be a pretty unique thing. Then again, if they avoid those connotations altogether, it might feel like change for the sake of change. I suppose we'll just have to find out when we've got all the elements.
  22. Urban always strikes me as an actor who is really willing to put himself out there for a role. I don't always know if I'm going to like the things that he's in, but I know I won't be bored watching them. Someone should really have picked up his version of Dredd and run with it as a franchise, it was picture perfect casting.
  23. Yeah, having seen Urban try out a similar voice in Thor Ragnarok (albeit played mostly for laughs as a slightly dopey sidekick for Cate Blanchett) it was pretty clear here as well, that he was laying it on just that little bit too thick. To give him some credit though, I was surprised after watching him do an American accent in Star Trek to find out that was really a New Zealander.
  24. That one must have passed me by at the time, but the summary I've read online makes it sound kind of great, honestly. I wouldn't mind tracking it down. For sure though, I really think Roy Batty's influence could be felt in pretty much every depiction of replicants, androids (and suchlike) that followed.
  25. Yeah, the original scripted speech was apparently intended to be a lot longer and more grandiose, but Ridley Scott allowed Rutger to edit it down to just 50 seconds, and then add the "tears in rain" part as an ad-lib.
