  1. Hey. If you'd like to point me in the direction of the posts, I'd be happy to care of it.
  2. I can't decide what to do first now, delete the post or go and get something to eat.
  3. Yeah, going forward it won't necessarily be a question of people wanting to come out and see films (because I do still think the demand will be there), but whether or not the studios stick to doing cinematic releases. The more things start going directly to streaming platforms, the less likely the theatres will survive. My fingers are crossed, though.
  4. If there is a silver lining, it's that the delays might be good for some of these projects, since they're no longer being rushed through the door. Assuming they don't just end up sitting on someone's hard drive for a couple of years, of course.

    Tennis

I think everyone was waiting for a breakout tournament from Swiatek and she's already had a string of eye-opening results. It's also a reminder that successors to a nation's top player can arrive quicker than we think. Maybe it's a sign of old age setting in, but it barely seems like five minutes since Radwanska, one of my all-time favourites, was at the top of her game.

    Supergirl

The end of the CW's decade-long licensing deal with Netflix was likely another contributing factor. I'd imagine it went a long way to making sure the shows remained profitable, even with the lower ratings (not that I myself put a great deal of stock in that) and the fact that the CW wasn't really in the streaming business. Now with their parent company Warners getting ready to launch their own streaming platform, it might be that more emphasis is being placed on ratings again.
  7. If cinemas are still a thing at that point, 2022 should be a hell of a party.

Yeah, for sure, Sinner can go home with his head held high, two extremely good sets against Nadal on his favoured surface, pushing Rafa as far as anyone has done this tournament. All we need now is to find a player called Saint to go up against him. Licence to print money.

Finger on the pulse as usual.
  10. RIP Yuko.

    Supergirl

Sounds like a classic case of telly economics really, it's disappointing but not too surprising. The time would have almost certainly come for contracts to be renewed, so I'd imagine if your show is a massive cash cow you renegotiate and pay your main cast more money, if it isn't you start thinking about how to write a closing story arc.

Not sure if I think anyone has been consistently eye-catching so far, although Nadal-Thiem and Djokovic-Tsitsipas as the semis could be pretty saucy, hopefully with a good final to follow. I'd take Svitolina to win the women's, she was heartbreakingly close two or three years ago when she lost to Halep.

    Dune (2020)

Sounds like Dune is being postponed until October 2021, which directly conflicts with another major Warners tentpole in The Batman. So perhaps expect a release date shift for that too.

    Football

Did I imagine Graeme Souness at half time blaming the length of the grass? If a decent lawnmower was all Liverpool needed this evening then 2020 may have just taken on a new level of surrealism.

Yeah, Zverev continues to frustrate, although by the sounds of it he probably shouldn't have been on the court today, while Thiem only survived by the skin of his teeth. I suppose you'd have to say Nadal-Djokovic is looking increasingly likely to be the final.

The US was pretty strange too, it was fun to see a new champion crowned although in fairness, you can see why the current crop of players are struggling to overcome the old guard. Still, yesterday's image of Djokovic serving from the dry half of the court to Galan in torrential rain (while they were midway through the process of shutting the roof) takes some beating. That will stay with me forever, I think.
  17. Even a full decade later, it's probably still preferable to pretend that Joey's arc ended with the deconstruction of the foosball table in the Friends finale. Better Call Saul deserves to be added to the conversation of best.

    Tennis

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's been a strange old Roland Garros so far and a minefield for the seeds, with five players in both singles draws reaching the middle weekend despite having never won a match at a slam.

    Football

Whenever a transfer out of a "big six" club happens, the deal always seems to come with the caveat of "if he gets back to the player he was," but as much as the dream of him becoming a world class midfielder was wishful thinking from the press gang (international football being a very different kettle of fish from having a good game against Brighton), I honestly don't get that impression from Barkley. The lad looks as if he wants to play and should carry some of the creative burden.
  20. Yeah, I know for me, a film that divides opinion is better than one that everyone agrees is average or forgettable. Thinking about it now, I guess both Andrew Garfield efforts probably fall into the latter category. With the Sam Raimi series, I find the opposite is true, albeit not always for the right reasons.
  21. I feel like the biggest mistake was that they made a film where seemingly half the point was to introduce a bunch of other stuff for the future, instead of just concentrating on telling a half-decent Spider-Man story. The finer details of the plot, assuming there were any, sort of escape me now.
  22. After Spiderverse I know there were rumours about a live action version with Holland, Maguire and Garfield. In fairness, that sounds about right for studio thinking. I only ever saw ASM2 the once so I'm a bit hazy on how good or bad a movie it really was, although I do remember it could have been called Dubstep: the Movie. Which I guess one could argue might make it a bad movie.
  23. It would appear there's no time for release in 2020 after all, and that April 2nd 2021 will be the new date to mark on our calendars.
  24. I can't think of anything it could be but a multiverse plot. They must have been seriously impressed by how well received the Spiderverse movie was.
