  1. A Clockwork Orange

    Started by COP11,

A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 darkly satirical science fiction film adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name. The film, which was made in England, concerns Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a charismatic, psychopathic delinquent whose pleasures are classical music (especially Beethoven), rape, and so-called 'ultra-violence.' He leads a small gang of thugs (Pete, Georgie, and Dim), whom he calls his droogs (from the Russian друг, "friend", "buddy"). The film tells the horrific crime spree of his gang, his capture, and attempted rehabilitation via a controversial psychological conditioning technique. Alex narrates most of the film in Nadsat, a fractured, contempora…

The Cove is a 2009 documentary film that analyzes and questions Japan's dolphin hunting culture. It was awarded the (2010) Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film is a call to action to halt mass dolphin kills; change Japanese fishing practices; and to inform and educate the public about the risks, and increasing hazard, of mercury poisoning from dolphin meat. The film is told from an ocean conservationist's point of view. The film highlights the fact that the number of dolphins killed in the Taiji dolphin hunting drive is several times greater than the number of whales killed in the Antarctic, and claims that 23,000 dolphins and porpoises are killed in Japan…

Now, I'm going to honest with everyone. Thor was pretty bad. The story was weak and it didn't seem like a complete thought. The concept of plausible character development was shat on. Shoe-horned romance. The action was crap... Fighting? Awful and over-choreographed. Special effects were below par (except for the visual concept of Asgaard, which is stunning and I enjoyed more than that of Pandora in Avatar). What did I like? It was funny. Funnier than expected. Natalie Portman, who I normally can't stand, was surprisingly likable and beautiful in the role. Chris Hemsworth (more on him later) was surprisingly talented; great acting chops. Everyone was varying degrees of gr…

Have any of you seen You Again? I work with Touchstone, trying to get the word out about the movie. I’d love to hear if you are enjoying the previews or if you've seen the movie! Beyond the basic synopsis, I think this tagline sums up the vibe pretty well – “What doesn’t kill you…is going to marry your brother.” People seem pretty excited about it, do you think you'll check it out? Just in case you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer here: trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/youagain/

Want to get everyone's thoughts about this movie. I just finally saw this movie and was very impressed. I knew Sandra Bullock was a great actress, but I think she just out did any of her other performances. I also was impressed with the rest of the cast, even Tim McGraw not only is he a great singer (I'm a country music fan) but he has turned into a pretty fair actor.
