  3. Who has been the greatest Motown artist ever? Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson or someone else? Celebrating 50 years of Motown records This Day in Music have launched a poll to find out what you think. You can vote on http://www.thisdayinmusic.com Some Facts: As a songwriter, Berry Gordy had his first hit in 1957 with Reet Petite, sung by Jackie Wilson. Gordy quit his car factory job in the same year and went on to launch the independent Tamla Record Company on 12 January 1959, using a family loan of $800. The original name for the Tamla label was "Tammy," after the Debbie Reynolds song, but it was taken Motown, a blend of the words "motor" and "t…

just for fun and because I am listening to Coheed and Cambria right now, one of their albums is called: Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness which was followed by: Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World For Tomorrow which are both ridicuously long titles, but maybe you know something to top them? other than that I like to listen to: The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer by Red Sparowes this one would be my personal runner up, but they (the Red Sparoews) have those pretty lenghty song titles, like: Buildings Began to Stretch Wide Across the Sky, And the Air Filled with a Reddish Glow or Mechan…

I love some old 50's Rock n' Roll and Rockabilly. What do you think of these genres? Your favorite artists? And as the poll says: Who's the real King of Rock n' Roll for you? For me it's Chuck Berry. The one who really gave Rock n' Roll it's true form and made the guitar it's main instrument. He was one of the first showmen in the genre too, AND he wrote his own songs. I love Elvis and all, but the true King for me is Chuck Berry. If not, it could be Little Richard. Let's start with some music of course Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode As a genre it takes most of it's sound from the Blues, the urban and electrified Blues from places like Chicago and…

I was wondering. do you think it's possible to be a great actress & a singer at the same time. And which female actress/singer do you think has the best acting AND singing talent? I started thinking about this after I found out that Jennifer Landon (daughter of Michael Landon of 'Highway to Heaven', 'Little House on the Prairie', & 'Bonanza' fame) who followed her dad's acting career and really did well in the daytime soap AWS (As the World Turns) went on to launch a singing career. I believe she only has 1 song out right now, called Slide, but it's really good. You can check it on iTunes if you like. Any thoughts?"

Any other Beatles' fans here? The band was founded by John Lennon around 1956, under the name "The Quarrymen" in Liverpool. They started playing skiflle: covers and some original songs. In October 1957 Paul McCartney joined the band, and under his recommendation, George Harrison was included in 1958. That year, The Quarrymen recorded two songs: one was a Buddy Holly cover, and the other one a McCartney/Harrison original. By 1960, and after going through several names, the band was now called The Beatles. They were now in Hamburg, in Germany, playing in local clubs as the Indra, The Kaiserkeller, and The Top Ten club. While in Hamburg they entered the recording studio, t…

I'm not sure if any of the people here are into this sort of stuff, I'd guess not judging by the sorts of bands posted in the Now Playing thread. I just bought this album yesterday, and had pretty much no hope for it to be worth the price of purchase, but I was pleasantly surprised during my second listen to the album by the progression that both Patton and Kaada are making with their own sounds. It's the sort of album you need headphones for, or some extra clear and well positioned speakers. The depth in each song is actually quite amazing, as there are countless layers of instruments. electronic sound and voice. If you're thinking about getting this album, or any sort…
