Interstellar (2014)
The reviews were mildly-to-mostly positive and a lot of people did like it, but the ones who didn’t were very vocal, especially online. Nolan of course has his fair share of detractors and at that point in the hype cycle, the backlash was in full swing, as was the backlash to the backlash. I suppose after The Dark Knight Rises had more of a lukewarm response than Nolan's past work, viewers started to pick up on his tendencies a bit more, with some rejecting them. By now, he's a bit like Quentin Tarantino in the sense that most folks probably already know if they'll like one of his films based on how they receive his style. Even if this one didn't hold together quite as well as I would have liked, there were parts of it that were just so wonderfully inventive. I still think down the road, if he isn't already, Nolan will be highly respected as a filmmaker who proved that mainstream audiences don't just want popcorn fare.

Scariest Kids' Movies
Are there any movies you saw as a kid that just frightened the hell out of you? I don't mean movies that weren't age appropriate because it's probably fair to assume that we've all been there at one time or another, but ones that were ostensibly aimed at or skewed towards a young audience and still succeeded in being genuinely scary.

Supergirl
Alex has been phenomenal this season. A storyline that could have easily been misjudged has been handled very well and done with real class. Not crazy about the Guardian stuff so far, though. The partnership with Winn is quite good fun, but I'm not sure I'm really buying Olsen's motivation to become a vigilante.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)
I'd love to see a good adaptation of this, however I think it'll be a very hard thing to transition into live action. Nothing against Scarjo, but it would have been great to have seen someone like Rinko Kikuchi in the lead role. While studios inevitably make decisions that they feel will guarantee profit, movies like Life of Pi and Memoirs of a Geisha stand as proof that you can adapt a foreign story into a big Hollywood production, stick to the cast's original ethnicity and still rake in the cash.

Interstellar (2014)
Overall, the landscape of film would be a lot less interesting without Nolan, and there are films much, much worse than this that seem to generate far less ire. I still have quite conflicting thoughts on it, though. Visually, it had pretty much everything a cinema-goer could want. Story-wise, there are things in it that objectively, aren't brilliant, but equally, I was affected by some of it in a way that I find is quite rare these days.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Awesome. I can't believe how quickly the release date for this has snuck up on me. It only seems like five minutes since @toodarnhot started the topic, and now here we are with just a month to go.

Gigi Hadid
To me, Gigi wasn't making fun of Melania's accent or the fact that she's an immigrant. She was doing an impersonation and in order to do a proper impersonation of someone, you imitate their speech patterns, facial expressions and tone inflection. It's something that's been done to celebrities and political figures for many years, and it comes with the territory. Although I do think there's a certain irony in so many people having such a big problem with political correctness, then demanding apologies from anyone who dares to make fun of Trump and co. On a tangentially related note, I'd like to take a brief moment to appreciate how lovely Gigi's handwriting is.

- Doctor Strange (2016)
Did anyone end up seeing this one, then? I felt like it was a solid introduction to the character as we move towards Infinity War, nothing particularly risky for an origin story, but easily one of the most efficient entries in the Marvel stable. I don't mean for that to sound like faint praise either, because in a world where superhero movies are getting more and more unwieldy, the tightness of Strange makes it feel very fresh, despite being packed with familiar reference points. Easily some of the trippiest visual sequences I've seen all year too (the only film that comes close for me is The Neon Demon), with the twisting buildings, floors, cars bending around corners, and the climax in general. Cumberbatch, Swinton and Ejiofor all excelled, as they almost always do. Cumberbatch in particular was terrific. What was interesting as well, much like Guardians of the Galaxy which was also very much its own thing, is that you could easily see the character carving his own niche and developing in his own self-contained universe. There were of course some minor references to other parts of the shared continuity, but no spoilers or required watching beforehand. Overall, I'd place it in the middle of the MCU pack, but towards the top end.- Bellazon's Top 100 Sexiest Women of 2016
In my defence, using the tags to let people know about the contest only occurred to me a few hours after I'd started the topic. By which time you'd already posted in it.- Bellazon's Top 100 Sexiest Women of 2016
@F 4 5 H U N and @Prettyphile, you guys were so quick off the mark that I didn't get a chance to tag you. Thanks for voting! I get the feeling, what with Candice having been pregnant for much of 2016, it's anyone's game this year.- Bellazon's Top 100 Sexiest Women of 2016
As always, voting in this contest couldn't be easier. Simply name your personal TOP 20 women of the year in this very thread (in order of preference and in the internationally approved format) while considering just a few trifling matters... ELIGIBILITY Any current model, actress, singer, athlete or celebrity is eligible for nomination, but they must have had a Bellazon thread to call their own before the time of this post, be alive and well (or alive at least) and be of legal age. No voting for anybody previously without a BZ thread, anybody who died before the year began, or anybody who hasn't or won't turn 18 before the year ends, and no placing two different women in the same spot. Any votes not fitting this criteria will, I'm sorry to say, be disregarded. Please also try to vote with greater consideration for favourites of the last year than for favourites of all time. CLOSING DATE Votes will be accepted from now until the end of the year. If you're struck by an urge to edit your list after posting, fear not, but once the aforementioned deadline comes and goes, you won't be able to do so any longer. I'll then begin to count the votes and prepare the final list and pics. We'll award 25, 20, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points to those listed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. Perhaps needless to say, the woman who amasses the highest points total will be declared the winner. P.S. One additional rule, to qualify for the final Top 100 list each woman will require a minimum number of three seperate votes. This is to avoid having anyone with just one voter reaching the final list. Women with less than three votes will be considered if we desperately need to make up the numbers, but not unless. End of an era.- Black Panther (2018)
At the very least, I could see the climax of the movie finding T'Challa outnumbered and massively outgunned, and thawing out Bucky for reinforcements. Speaking of actresses who were practically tailor made for the role of Storm, Angela Bassett has been added to an already stacked cast as Ramonda. https://news.marvel.com/movies/55317/angela-bassett-boards-marvels-black-panther/- Watching right now
Still probably one of my favourite shows ever. So you weren't expecting good things?- Watching right now
Your wish is my command, sir!- Last movie you saw...
Arrival I'm still on a bit of a post-cinema high, but this might be my favourite film of the year. Where Interstellar came up a little short after modelling itself on a similar kind of premise, this delivered in spades. There's a real emotional story at its heart, alongside some genuinely tense and exciting moments. I loved it. Villeneuve's previous movie was Sicario, which I liked a lot. His next will be the Blade Runner sequel, which on paper seems like an agonisingly bad idea, but I’m starting to think that if anyone can pull it off, he can.- Supergirl
Smallville was one of those things that always strung you along with promises of getting good soon, but it promised a lot more than it ever delivered. I think in retrospect, it was mainly Michael Rosenbaum's performances as Luthor that elevated an otherwise fairly mediocre show. J'onn just chancing upon the only other surviving Martian at the alien hangout was a bit of an eye-roller, and the reveal seemed a little rushed. I like the dynamic of Mon-El and M'gann dealing with their survivor's guilt in different ways, though. A slow burning arc with Alex and Maggie could be really good, too. Hopefully, if they do take it down the romantic route, the relationship is given time to develop. I'd rather that than it just being a passing thing or a new friendship for Alex, who already has Kara for that.- Supergirl
Not sure how long it's been since Lynda Carter last acted, but the few lines she did have, she really seemed to be chewing out. I suppose as long as she only makes the occasional appearance, there'll be no real harm done.- Supergirl
Thanks @slipman59 As a longstanding Katie McGrath fan, I'm really enjoying Lena Luthor so far. Not sure if you ever watched it, but her relationship with Kara is starting to remind me a lot of Lex and Clark's on Smallville. Loved seeing Dichen turn up as Roulette too, I doubt that we've seen the last of her after being sprung from the nick. I wonder who the friend who helped get her out is going to be?- Westworld
So, I really enjoyed the first episode and will be following the series. The story seems to borrow some of the themes and plot points of both Westworld and Futureworld, presumably with the main focus being on the Corporation running the park and whether or not they have an ulterior motive for what they're doing with the bots. There's also the story of how the bots are becoming self-aware and sentient, which was never explored in the films. The work and production values that have gone into making this is pretty astounding too.- Westworld

Another update on the mysterious relationship between Fox and Marvel. Fox had owned the rights to Ego and were willing to work out a trade, not for Deadpool himself but for permission to alter the powers of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. - Doctor Strange (2016)
