I believe the primary model for problem solving in politics is to divide, cause conflict and confusion, then take advantage of that confusion. It's a culture of bullying where the blame game never stops, just escalates. So I guess I'd probably consider them bullies more so than liars. Do you believe in yourself?

I'd say if we can rack up six or seven points in our next four games (Hull, Liverpool, Leicester and Swansea), then we'll be right back in the mix, although of course, it's another big if. In a funny way, the decline in the overall quality of the Premier League is probably making it tougher to stay up, as teams you'd hope would finish below you now look more likely to pick up points in games where in the past it would have been unthinkable (Burnley at Man Utd, Boro at City and so on).

Looking at the current Dutch squad, a fit Arjen Robben might be the only player who'd walk into Belgium's first eleven. Hard not to feel for Vincent Kompany after this latest setback. It's looking more and more like persistent injuries are going to cut a great career short.

A new TV spot appeared the other day, with a number of new scenes including one where a rocket launcher is fired at one of the AT-ATs.

It was reported ages ago that Michael Keaton was in talks about an undisclosed role, but Feige just revealed that he'll be playing the Vulture, which again feels very fitting for the whole homecoming angle.

As much as he's underwhelmed in just about every department imaginable so far, I will admit to being quite pleased for Moyes after the Bournemouth game. Looking at him these days, it's almost impossible to believe that he was ever handed the top job at the Premier League champions, let alone that it happened as recently as 2013, but I still think there's a half decent manager in there somewhere. As for the players, they've at least shown now that they're capable of winning a game and perhaps needless to say, another three points would be just what the doctor ordered. Beat Hull after the international break and suddenly we're all riding a wave of renewed optimism again. Come up short and really, you'd have to say we're back to square one.
  7. I've never felt so thankful for Australia being surrounded by so much water. Wait, how far can a huntsman swim?

Let's not get too carried away with yesterday's result, I for one would still settle for a place in the Champions League.

We're only two episodes in on this side of the pond, but once again I've been really impressed by what I've seen so far. It's easily the best superhero stuff on TV at the moment. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman is great fun and comes across as immensely likeable, especially when you compare him to the version Zack Snyder presented in the movies. It's a pity that Calista Flockhart is probably only going to be a recurring character this year because Cat Grant is always a highlight, but I like the addition of Ian Gomez and I'm quite enjoying the new dynamic of Winn working for the DEO. Also, how much fun is it to say 'J'onn J'onzz?'

Another decent trailer, and it didn't give too much away either. At long last, they're learning.

At the moment Ndong just doesn't look ready to play week in and week out, but I'm reluctant to judge him too harshly as he's currently tasked with forming a midfield trio alongside Rodwell and McNair. A fate much worse than anything the courts could dish out, surely! Pienaar at least has some idea of what he's doing, he seems to use the ball quite well although it probably goes without saying that he can't really run any more. If you stuck him in a half decent, settled team he'd look alright. By far the biggest wastes of time have been Anichebe and Love, even now with seven of our regular first teamers missing through injury, neither can get a game. Ordinarily, I'd say it was time to send an SOS to Phil Neville, but it didn't work when we tried it with Steven Naismith so my expectations aren't particularly high.

It looks like they're doing the r-rated thing this time, partly I suspect because the Wolverine character is one of the 'darkest' of the X-Men, but mostly because the success of Deadpool earlier this year proved that a comic book film with an r-rating can work, and still rake in the big bucks at the same time. Yeah, the news about Steve was very sad. I remember his style of artwork leaving me rather cold at first, but as I got used to it, I grew to appreciate how well his visuals and Garth Ennis's stories complemented each other. Their collaborations on Preacher, Hellblazer and Punisher will always be among my favourites.

I'm a PC person myself, but I bear no ill will towards folks who prefer using Apple Macs. Do you believe in me as I believe in you... tonight?

I get the impression that they initially liked the idea of an Old Man Logan adaptation, then realised they wouldn't be able to do much of it without a cease and desist letter from Disney landing on their doormat. So I would expect this to perhaps borrow some of the emotional tones and plot points of Old Man Logan, but probably woven into a narrative closer to Death of Wolverine. Mostly, I'm really fascinated by the grounded, non-superhero vibe.

Publicity stills for Logan and Xavier. They really are hammering home the point that this is the end for Jackman as Wolverine, which also means that someone's going to have some rather large shoes to fill in the near future. What I find quite funny is that Patrick Stewart is in his late seventies and doesn't appear to age, so presumably they needed extensive makeup to make him look somewhere in the vicinity of his real age.

The reviews are starting to roll in and the consensus is mostly positive so far. Praise has been heaped on the effects, in particular one of the centrepiece action sequences, with Cumberbatch's performance drawing comparisons to Robert Downey's first outing as Tony Stark. Not all cared for the Marvel brand of humour or the fact that it was another superhero origin story, but those things struck me as coming with the territory anyway. Looking forward to going.

I've seen big budget movies with worse CGI than that. Seems like quite a clever way of showcasing a character who doesn't have a great deal of recognition outside of some very specific circles. Of course, the ultimate test of Cumberbatch's suitability for the role would have been to see if he could deliver a line like "by the hoary hosts of Hoggoth" while keeping a straight face.

Thanks to @Stromboli1 for the topic and to all for the pics. Not only does she possess the most incredible face, I'm pretty certain that her dad is George Lucas. So yeah, she's got quite a lot going for her.
  20. It's still all about the first high-res look for me, but presumably that's Mantis between Quill and Nebula.

So, the full trailer for Jackman's last outing as Wolvie, and presumably Stewart's last as Xavier, is here. In many ways, I consider 'The Wolverine' an underrated film, albeit one that falls apart somewhat near the end. It seemed to suffer at the time from its promotional campaign, which managed to convince people that it was another 'something explodes then the hero says something funny' action film. Not that there's anything wrong with that. This one looks very different from anything the series has delivered up to now, though. It's probably by necessity as Fox doesn't have the rights to most of the characters involved, but the 'Old Man Logan' elements are seemingly being kept to a minimum. To be honest, since I never really cared for a lot of the stuff in the book, I'm not too put out by that.
