Losing Watmore for the season will be a massive blow for us. He may give off a 'distance runner who accidentally became a pro footballer' vibe, but his eagerness to engage defenders and ability to take us up the field will be sorely missed. This of course means that it's now time for Januzaj to finally stand up and be counted. The lad clearly has ability, but we need him to show that he wants to play for us, or at the very least show Jose that it would be worth taking him back at the end of the season. All things considered, I'm predicting either a wonder goal, red card or season ending injury at Swansea next week.

Yeah, to be fair, Kusanagi isn’t in her original form when we first meet her in the anime. If I'm remembering it right, she was given a generic looking body designed to help her blend into crowds. She’d likely have the most nondescript appearance possible, which ordinarily would rule out an actress like Scarjo, who stands out a mile in the trailer. I have to say, from what I’ve seen, the preview clips of the movie don't give me a great deal of confidence in it. It looks like it'll take place in roughly the same world, but I can see them steering it in a full-on mainstream blockbuster direction, rather than trying something a bit more thoughtful. The original story was similar to Blade Runner in its setting and tone, both are slow burning with a lot of empty, quiet moments and morally ambiguous characters. Of course there are action scenes too, but a fairly economical approach is taken to them. I'd really love to see a modern version of that, instead I think the best case scenario here is probably that we get a casually entertaining, stylish action flick.

Also, two scenes from the early nineties Ninja Turtles film. The first was when Raphael was ambushed on the roof of April's apartment building. I suppose like many young fans, I wasn't really aware of the franchise's darker comic book roots at the time. The Turtles usually found themselves in trouble in the old cartoon series, but they would usually just crack a few jokes, have a fight and solve everything by the time the credits rolled. There was nothing funny about what happened to Raph, even though the movie tried to lighten the mood later on. Also, the moment Tatsu completely lost it and took his anger out on one of his students, which again, was in such stark contrast to the cartoons. If I ever watched it back, I'd probably wonder what on earth I was thinking, but I remember them really freaking me out as a youngster.

So, I was inspired to start the topic after re-watching 'The Last Unicorn', because until recently, the only real memory I had of it was that it was scary as hell. It wasn't as frightening to me as an adult, but it was every bit as weird, melancholic and atmospheric. Supposedly, a lot of the people who worked on it went on to work for Studio Ghibli, which kind of shows.

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to speak out, but I take my hat off to you for doing it because those who address it openly and honestly play such a huge part in helping reduce the amount of misinformation out there. The reviews were mildly-to-mostly positive and a lot of people did like it, but the ones who didn’t were very vocal, especially online. Nolan of course has his fair share of detractors and at that point in the hype cycle, the backlash was in full swing, as was the backlash to the backlash. I suppose after The Dark Knight Rises had more of a lukewarm response than Nolan's past work, viewers started to pick up on his tendencies a bit more, with some rejecting them. By now, he's a bit like Quentin Tarantino in the sense that most folks probably already know if they'll like one of his films based on how they receive his style. Even if this one didn't hold together quite as well as I would have liked, there were parts of it that were just so wonderfully inventive. I still think down the road, if he isn't already, Nolan will be highly respected as a filmmaker who proved that mainstream audiences don't just want popcorn fare.

Are there any movies you saw as a kid that just frightened the hell out of you? I don't mean movies that weren't age appropriate because it's probably fair to assume that we've all been there at one time or another, but ones that were ostensibly aimed at or skewed towards a young audience and still succeeded in being genuinely scary.

Alex has been phenomenal this season. A storyline that could have easily been misjudged has been handled very well and done with real class. Not crazy about the Guardian stuff so far, though. The partnership with Winn is quite good fun, but I'm not sure I'm really buying Olsen's motivation to become a vigilante.

I'd love to see a good adaptation of this, however I think it'll be a very hard thing to transition into live action. Nothing against Scarjo, but it would have been great to have seen someone like Rinko Kikuchi in the lead role. While studios inevitably make decisions that they feel will guarantee profit, movies like Life of Pi and Memoirs of a Geisha stand as proof that you can adapt a foreign story into a big Hollywood production, stick to the cast's original ethnicity and still rake in the cash.

Overall, the landscape of film would be a lot less interesting without Nolan, and there are films much, much worse than this that seem to generate far less ire. I still have quite conflicting thoughts on it, though. Visually, it had pretty much everything a cinema-goer could want. Story-wise, there are things in it that objectively, aren't brilliant, but equally, I was affected by some of it in a way that I find is quite rare these days.

Awesome. I can't believe how quickly the release date for this has snuck up on me. It only seems like five minutes since @toodarnhot started the topic, and now here we are with just a month to go.

To me, Gigi wasn't making fun of Melania's accent or the fact that she's an immigrant. She was doing an impersonation and in order to do a proper impersonation of someone, you imitate their speech patterns, facial expressions and tone inflection. It's something that's been done to celebrities and political figures for many years, and it comes with the territory. Although I do think there's a certain irony in so many people having such a big problem with political correctness, then demanding apologies from anyone who dares to make fun of Trump and co. On a tangentially related note, I'd like to take a brief moment to appreciate how lovely Gigi's handwriting is.

Did anyone end up seeing this one, then? I felt like it was a solid introduction to the character as we move towards Infinity War, nothing particularly risky for an origin story, but easily one of the most efficient entries in the Marvel stable. I don't mean for that to sound like faint praise either, because in a world where superhero movies are getting more and more unwieldy, the tightness of Strange makes it feel very fresh, despite being packed with familiar reference points. Easily some of the trippiest visual sequences I've seen all year too (the only film that comes close for me is The Neon Demon), with the twisting buildings, floors, cars bending around corners, and the climax in general. Cumberbatch, Swinton and Ejiofor all excelled, as they almost always do. Cumberbatch in particular was terrific. What was interesting as well, much like Guardians of the Galaxy which was also very much its own thing, is that you could easily see the character carving his own niche and developing in his own self-contained universe. There were of course some minor references to other parts of the shared continuity, but no spoilers or required watching beforehand. Overall, I'd place it in the middle of the MCU pack, but towards the top end.
