May 25, 20186 yr @Enrico_sw @jj3 I wanted to ask, have you been to the areas where the battle of Normandy was fought? Especially Caen and the surrounding areas. I have heard that the Normandy Bocage is no more, and the terrain features that constitute these battelgrounds are less impressive than it would seem.

Yes, I've been to Omaha Beach (quite a while ago). It's very interesting to go there. You can still see craters and signs of the battlegrounds. At the pointe du Hoc, I remember there was really a lof of craters; I found some pictures of it: If you want to go there, I would advise you to do it. There are some places that are really interesting and the museums as well. Sure it's not like 70 years ago, but there are still some things to see. About the bocage, I don't know what you mean. There's still a lot of bocage there; outside of Paris, Lyon (or other big cities), France is a country that has been largely made by farmers and peasants. It's still very prominent in the landscape (even if farmers are poorer and poorer, and they get eaten by industrial exploitations, there's still a significant share of the population who lives in rural areas). Also, if you're interested in WWI, you can go to places like Verdun; there are a lot of things to see there.

I am curious about the personal impression of the terrain.
