The idea of this thread is not promoting big, recent releases, but either smaller, independent movies that fewer people might have heard of yet, or older classics that might not get that much attention any more. My list, for now: Paths of Glory (1957) One of the most powerfull war movies I have ever seen, and yet, a lot of people seem oblivious to it. It really grips you and shows you the absurdity of war in all it's ugliness. It's even more remarkable, if you consider the herioc tone most, if not all of it's contemporary war movies had. Stalag 17 (1953) The ultimate POW camp movie, imho. I prefer it to the Great Escape even. It's probably closer in tone to Hart's War. …

Though it doesn't have the raw punch of "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" or the steely, colon-aided determination of "Die Hard: With A Vengeance," the title for the fourth installment in the Bruce Willis-against-the-world action series might be the greatest of all. 20th Century Fox announced yesterday that it will release – drumroll, please – "Live Free or Die Hard" in theaters next summer, over the July 4 weekend. In the film, an attack on our country's computer infrastructure cripples us, but the perpetrator of this cyber-terrorism, as Variety puts it today, "never expected an old-fashioned cop to mess up his plans." New Hampshirites all over the world will rejoice over the ti…

I love to watch a good fight or chase in a movie. Some I don't get tired of watching over and over. Some just blow me away when I first see them. I figured I'd make a thread for like-minded folks that love them too. The first one I'll mention comes from The Hulk...not a great movie, but not too bad either. The action sequence I love is when the Hulk fights the 3 tanks. The power he exhibits when he smashes the first one, or turns over the top half of the second one to drop the people out, then walks around with the barrell to smash the others. Ends up with bending the barrell of the third over to point into the hatch. Man, that scene made me go "DAMN!"

Apparently Mel was pulled over for a DUI, and declared war on the Jews. again. man, it's a bad idea to be such a hater when 90% of Hollywood is run by Jewish people. The career of Mel Gibson, one of Hollywood's most bankable actors, may have been damaged irreparably over the weekend when Gibson let loose a barrage of anti-Semitic statements following his DUI arrest by Los Angeles County Sheriff's officers. He reportedly shouted out, "f***ing Jews" and "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" and asked the arresting deputy, who admitted to being "frightened" by Gibson, "Are you a Jew?" (His comments were first reported by the TMZ.com celebrity website.) T…

this is an evolution of the other movie game. in this one, you come up with two film professionals (directors, writers and producers are also ok), and the next person has to figure out what they've worked on together. for example, if I said, 'Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder', you could say "Dracula". or if I said, 'Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson', you'd have a lot of options. of course, you can check IMDB if you're stuck. I'll start with an easy one, Bill Murray & Scarlett Johansson

This is a thread about actors who had the potential to be great, but were held back by circumstances. Elvis Presley is my first entry. Some might frown, but at the beginning of his career he showed a lot of genuine talent. Had he not been forced into a lot of worthless fodder by Col. Parker, he might have been equally famous for his acting career as he is for his music career. Check out Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Flaming Star for proof of his potential. Elliott Gould is my second entry. Here's a man who was destined for greatness in the early 70s (after his break-out performance in M.A.S.H.) He was considered by many to be the greatest actor of his generation. Yet someh…

Okay, another game/pip thread. The aim of the game is to list a movie character and the actor who portrayed him. The following person then has to suggest an actor who would have done an equally good or even better job with the part. And he also has to give a new movie character and original actor for the next person. Iconic characters are the most fun to play this game with (makes it more of a challenge). I'll get us started: Character: Indiana Jones Original actor: Harrison Ford

I saw the midnight showing..and I absolutely loved it! It had much more story than the first, without compromising entertainment. Of course.. Orlando Bloom's sexy back ups the factor. But this film has so much more than that. I absolutely loved it. What did you guys think about it?

Is history repeating itself? Once upon a time Sean Connery left the James Bond franchise, saying he would never again play the role. Roger Moore was brought in for an increasingly campy series of films, but 12 years later Connery was back as Bond in Never Say Never Again. Only it wasn’t part of the official franchise; it was a remake of fourth Bond film Thunderball, which courts had ruled belonged to producer and co-writer Kevin McClory (read this Wikipedia article for the complete confusing rundown). Now it seems that McClory is ready to pull that trick again – once more he’ll remake Thunderball, this time with Pierce Brosnan starring as Bond. At least that’s what he hop…
