That movie made me think of the slightly modified song lyrics..."It crawled in like a cockroach leaving babies in my head", and now I'm left feeling sad, disturbed and unable to think about much else

I just watched it too.... Just.. Ya...

I wanna crawl into a ball and not think of anything for awhile

What is your impression of the filmmakers? Do you think they had a point or did it make you feel disturbed to know that someone came up with all that and wanted to make it into a movie?

Everything has a point, when you read some of the articles related to it such as these quotes from wikipedia:

Quote

Spasojević has responded to the controversy with "This is a diary of our own molestation by the Serbian government... It's about the monolithic power of leaders who hypnotize you to do things you don't want to do. You have to feel the violence to know what it's about."

While acknowledging some level of conservatism among the public and theater owners, Spasojević says that government enforced censorship in Serbia is non-existent and was not the driving force behind the making of 'A Serbian Film' : "In Serbia we don't have ratings, there is no law forbidding anything from being shown in a film and there is no law forbidding anyone from buying a ticket."

Spasojević and Radivojević, have stated that the film is a parody of modern politically correct films made in Serbia, which are financially supported by foreign funds. When asked why they chose the title 'Srpski Film' for the film's name, Radivojević answered, "We have become synonyms for chaos and lunacy. The title is a cynical reference to that image. Srpski Film is also a metaphor for our national cinema — boring, predictable and altogether unintentionally hilarious which throughout our film to some extent is commented on and subtly parodied." Similarly, Radivojević describes Serbian cinema as "...pathetic state financed films made by people who have no sense or connection to film, but are strongly supported by foreign funds. Quality of the film is not their concern, only the bureaucratic upholding of the rule book on political correctness."

Taking everything at face value from what I've read this would be an extreme form of a response against the government and the status quo.

You take it with a grain of salt and you see a film that isn't afraid to hide much unless it's the worst of the scenes (the newborn) :shocking:. It's making a statement (the last 45 of the movie really strikes you and I can't go into details without spoiling it/unless read below)

Spoiler

The main actor gets drugged/shot up with an aphrodisiac and then is forced to relive the memories through either what he can remember/what he sees on tape. Because of this at least I felt if you take it to a less serious degree if you lost track of what happened over the last X amount of time and slowly pick it up in pieces and learn what you did was so horrific you could never think of it what would you be like? What if it involved people you loved/cared about and they somehow knew or were involved, how would they react and see you. If you were witness to the acts you have seen before you, what are you going to do, go to the police and report this and try to explain why you were there/how you got involved? Etc...

Overall I feel they had a point as the director has stated, it's a huge amount of shock value, disturbing images, thoughts, fear etc..  But it drives certain points across, I'm not surprised a film like this was made/can be made. The actions depicted in the movie happen everyday and we don't hear about it until those doing so are caught and it gets brought to light, or like other horror/shocker movies we have to adjust/cannot believe what we're seeing, plus with how society has evolved from "Pyscho" being a OMG WTF CRAZY movie for it's time to something like this there's a bit of a difference in tolerance/shock level. It still really shocks and disturbs you though regardless, only someone without emotion would be able to say "this is okay, I don't see anything wrong"

Yeah, their reasoning isn’t strong enough for me to be convinced that they don’t enjoy watching extreme violence and have fantasies of such sex acts. But hopefully, they were just “trolling” i.e. trying to come up with the most shocking scenarios to the point that all of it would turn ludicrous in a way.

And of course, Hitchcock himself had a bad reputation and was accused of being a deviant. Maybe one has to be a bit off to make horror movies that leave a mark.

Six of one half a dozen of the other really :idk: It's all personal interest for people who watched it and what you grew up on.

Killing/death through video games and movies something I grew up with however serial killers were a no-no from what my family introduced me to when I was younger. I remember watched a Robert Kuklinski special back when I was young but was shooed away because I wasn't ready for it. But it interests me to see where the human mind can go now older re-watching it it's fascinating
