Thanks Princess soo much for the translated spanish interview. I really liked it, it was nicer, and it was different from the others hes been giving, so thanks

Also didn't Vogue promise us a story of Leo and Madalina? That better be coming out soon, or I am branding Vogue a liar :p

First, it should be noted that the story came from the Italian /Vogue website; there is no mention on the US Vogue web page

Next there will be no pix, now the site is claiming the OLD pix we saw at top of two at different events are the pix

And the article, is more or less, a repeat of the other gossip article that By Princess posted earlier

Uber elegant in a grey suit and black shirt, Leonardo DiCaprio celebrated his 37th birthday with a super exclusive party at New York's Avenue.

The guests were plenty and the champagne was flowing. In attendance were also many Hollywood stars and celebs including his long time friend, Naomi Campbell and her boyfriend, Edward Norton, Bradley Cooper and the Italian-Romanian actress Madalina Ghenea clad in jeans and t-shirt.

Well-informed sources said that sitting at the same table with Leo's mum and aunts was ...the new girlfriend Madalina Ghenea who had a great time dancing with the "mother-in-law" almost until dawn when the party ended and Leo and Madalina left in two separate cars so as not to attract media attention

Thanks for all the video clips :)

The Great Gatsby: Leonardo DiCaprio and crew to shoot at Manly; Sydney Northern Beaches

by mediamanoz

13/11/2011

The fun and excitement of playing 'Spot A Gatsby' continues, with Manly on the Northern Beaches of Sydney now being the fertile ground.

Celebrated (and over budget) Australian director Baz Luhrmann has somehow recreated the extravagant Buchanan mansion from The Great Gatsby in Manly, on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

Luhrmann was able to snatch the International College of Management after considerable negotiations. It's currently being transformed into a 1920s mansion like the one you would find in in Long Island, New York, in the USA circa 1920.

We understand Baz will shoot external scenes on location while the indoor shots of the Gatsby mansion are being done with the magic and Hollywood - Aussie tricks at Fox Studios, Moore Park.

A large water fountain has been constructed on site to add to authenticity.

The site is where Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban got married in 2006, and they have been the odds and are still married, so hopefully that's a good omen for Gatsby cast and crew.

Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to sneak back to Australia via lear jet we hear to film scenes on location at the new Manly location within a week, and as soon as within the next 48 hours.

The Balmain region locals might be having a bit of Leo withdraw symptoms by now. The Rozelle film site was the former abandoned White Bay Power Station.

Budget is in the region of $120 million, but we heard its almost certain to go over budget.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's, writer of the famous novel would be proud.

Gatsby is expected to open by Christmas next year, but in the meantime we're enjoying seeing Leo and friends do their thing close up.

Thanks fash for the article! Leo should be on his way back to Australia about now :) Hopefully it won't be too long before we get new pics :D

Considering the circumstances, a little humor is necessary in these cases

Report:

Day 13th November 2011, Time 09:29 AM (according to the time of the forum, at least): It's another day and we still have nothing (reliable) about Leonardo's party... they are making it a little hard for us, right Oxf ? but it's ok , We accept the challenge and Nothing will stop us in our search.

What if it's sure, is that he must be returned to Australia right now. The truth it's that doesn't excite me much, because he sometimes seems to be having a miserable time in Sydney, not to mention that when he's there, almost never we have real news, only rumors. We continue reporting, Stay tuned

Sacha Baron Cohen in "Django"? Joseph Gordon-Levitt confirmed? Wow, this movie cannot get better. I'm more excited for this film as I've never been by any other... perhaps because I'm really excited to see Leo portray the villain. I'm not holding back .

So Madalina was at party of Leo? Interesting... this is the only word that comes to my mind right now. Let's wait for the scenes of the next chapters .

It seems that his party was lively. Well, at least it was full of gorgeous men: Leo (dã!), Bradley Cooper, Chase Crawford.   I guess my invitation was sent to the wrong address, must have been lost   .

Leo hanging out with friends... gorgeous as always. Makes me want to bite him .

Oh, Oxford. I have no words to say how much I'm jealous of you and everyone who has watched the movie . Every time I read the reviews grows my desire to see this movie soon. As Barbie said, here in Brazil only in 2012 . Leo's best performance? Wow!

Thanks girls for all news, pics, videos and tweets .

  ...

Hollywood Reporter

^no not bad. I was hopeing for a little higher, but I didn't expect much from a R biopic anyway :)

Well like Oxford metioned atleast it beat Ides of March which had way better reviews. Even Johnny Depp's movie only made 5 million in its opening weekend. I think Leo's star power really helped Edgar get to 11. 5 million because the subject matter isn't something that will bring audiences out in droves by itself.

I was expecting single digit box office only just last week so I'm satisfied with the results :)

^I agree. These types of movies don't usually attract a large audiance like a comedy or an action thriller might, But I am happy with the numbers.

Fash sent you a PM ;)

LA Times Box office article; just posting excerpt that applies to "J Edgar "

Also, as I stated earlier that Ides of March" with Clooney/Gosling ,and a much higher overall critic rating, opening in 300 more theaters = $10,470,143

At same time when Aviator ( which ,also, skewers toward adult audiences ) opened with similar pattern of limited during week/wide at weekend, about same # of theaters, for about $9, 0000

So , the box office of J Edgar is about par for older adult appealing films.

Though, for sure with Aviator's award traction when it was released with each week its domestic grew .

We will have to wait and see if Leo , or any other aspect, of the film does ultimately garner some award attention, which might encourage others to go see his performance, etc

Which is where the key word of mouth comes in. Will the audiences who did see it encourage their friends to see it , or what has been the pattern for most adult oriented films of late people just waiting for rental release ??? :(

If not , then we will next have to see how it does overseas, which won't be for several months yet.

Plus , as HR below points out, the subject matter is one that may be harder to sell to overseas audiences , whereas, a film like "Hereafter" dealt with a more universal subject matter of life/death/communicating with lost loved ones.

Personally, I think , whatever is the final domestic box office for J Edgar , with any other actor besides Leo it would have made less.

I said that because when Nixon opened with Frank Langella , a film that received nominations from every critic /award group including Oscar nods for BP/BA , only opened wide to about 3,000 box office

Infact , even with being nominated for every award possible, the final box office was =13,000

To me , J Edgar is comparable to Nixon, as both deal with subject matters that skewer more toward older adults and deal with characters that are not popular figures.

Eastwood's film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as late FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, appealed largely to an older crowd this weekend. About 66% of those who saw the picture were older than 50.

While "J. Edgar" earned the best reviews of any new film released this weekend, critics did not like it nearly as much as some of Eastwood's other recent movies. In an effort to spread positive word-of-mouth about the picture, Warner Bros. released the movie in seven theaters on Wednesday. Including those midweek grosses, the film has now made $11.6 million.

"J. Edgar," which was produced for about $35 million, opened to slightly less than Eastwood's last film, "Hereafter." That movie also earned middling reviews, debuting last year with $12 million and ultimately collecting $32.7 million domestically. The film did far better abroad, however, where it grossed $72.5 million. It remains to be seen how "J. Edgar" -- which has far more American themes than the supernatural "Hereafter" -- will fare internationally.
