Cricket is a very English and measured game and, as such, is largely neglected by the US. This I intend to rectify by producing this flashy little thread. There is currently a series of Test matches between England (ranked no.2) and Australia (ranked no.1) called the Ashes, which England have lost to varying degrees over the past 10 years or so. The Ashes started way back in 1930's, when Australia finally beat England after years of us (the English) trouncing them. The Australians were so happy they burnt the stumps (the wooden sticks the bowler aims at) and put them in a little pot. The Ashes was thenceforth created, ushering in the greatest cricket contest ever. This y…

Professional cheerleaders and dancers cheer for sports such as football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, or hockey. There are only a small handful of professional cheerleading leagues around the world; some professional leagues include the NBA Cheerleading League, the NFL Cheerleading League, the CFL Cheerleading League, the MLS Cheerleading League, the MLB Cheerleading League, and the NHL Ice Dancers. Although professional cheerleading leagues exist in multiple countries, there are no Olympic teams. In addition to cheering at games and competing, professional cheerleaders also, as teams, can often do a lot of philanthropy and charity work, modeling, motivational speakin…

Since it's almost time for that all-important draw, I hereby declare our official World Cup topic open! A minority viewpoint I'd imagine, but I’d actually prefer it if England’s worst case 'group of death' scenario came true. Four years ago, we expected an easy ride in the opening stages, followed by Ghana in the second round, which of course went south after inept performances against USA and Algeria. So give me games against Brazil and Italy over Iran and Honduras in the groups any day - let’s be honest, we're not going to win the thing, might as well test our mettle against as many heavy hitters as we can before we have to bog off home. If you s…

Somewhat belatedly, I hereby declare the topic for all Euro 2012 chat officially open! So, what do we think is going to happen? Will the Spanish keep up their phenomenal run of victories or will the Germans fufill their undoubted potential? Will Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo make a single pass between them? Will Roy Hodgson remember to pack Rooney's ritalin? Will Alan Shearer ever master the art of correct grammar? *Important looking info, fixtures etc will appear here when my computer decides to co-operate*

No topic for volley huh? <_< Volleyball is an Olympic team sport in which two teams of six active players, separated by a high net, each try to score points against one another by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules.[1] The complete rules of volleyball are extensive, but in general, play proceeds as follows: Points are scored by grounding the ball on the opponents' court, or when the opponent commits a fault. The first team to reach 25 points wins the set and the first team to win three sets wins the match.[2] Teams can contact the ball no more than three times before the ball crosses the net, and consecutive contacts must be made by di…

Mourinho confirms Khedira pursuit Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed the club would like to sign Stuttgart midfielder Sami Khedira. The 23-year-old German international was among the stars of the World Cup in South Africa where Germany finished third after losing to eventual winners Spain in the semi-final. Khedira is believed to have a €10 million buy-out clause on his head, which will not stretch Madrid's purse. Mourinho revealed his plan of signing one defender and one midfielder to bolster his current squad after the captures of Angel Di Maira and Pedro Leon but is adamant the club will not break the bank as they seek to change their spendthrift ways. He wa…

Who do you think is the most over rated male athlete in sports, past or present. Tony Romo - What has he really done since he's been a pro, not anything I can remember. Besides chocking when the game is on the line.

I want to start off by saying I am, in no way shape or form, dissing this sport, or trying to disrespect it's fans. I understand that it's very important in many cultures, played all over the world, and has a very passionate following... Why do people love soccer so much? Every time the World Cup rolls around I roll my eyes and groan. I've tried to sit through and watch an entire game, but I just can't. For the life of me, it doesn't appeal to me, bores me, and slowly gnaws away at my sanity. In fact, I dare say I almost abhor it. I understand that was a little harsh but, the whole point of this thread is to see if I can actually see it in a better light. I would love …
