i start this thread because i'm totally obsessed by old magazines; particulary the erotic/porn/crimes ones and it should be nice to discover if i'm the only one or other people appreciate it. i put the "warning" in the title because i should be obligated to "hide" 95% of the pictures i would post, and it the end, it would be a very big mess and i couldn't remember what i've already posted.

The Luxe Series by Anna Godbersen: Pretty girls in pretty dresses, partying until dawn. Irresistible boys with mischievous smiles and dangerous intentions. Who else has read it? Anyone? I can hardly wait until the third novel comes out! (The model for the second book cover is Taylor Warren!)

Crop circles are geometrical formations of flattened crops found in England and elsewhere. They have been found in wheat, barley, canola, rye, corn, linseed and soy. The phenomenon itself was observed in its current form after notable appearances in England in the late 1970s. Various explanations were offered for the phenomenon, which soon spread around the world. In 1991, two men named Doug Bower and Dave Chorley revealed that they had been making crop circles in England since 1978 using planks, rope, hats, and wire as their only tools.Circlemakers.org, a UK-based arts collective founded by John Lundberg have been creating complex crop circles since the early 1990s. Biography : Snow ran away from home and began living on the streets at 13 or 14, and began taking photographs, he said, as a record of places he might not remember the next day. He was included in the 2006 Wall Street Journal article titled "The 23-Year Old Masters", which selected ten top emerging US artists including Rosson Crow, Ryan Trecartin, Zane Lewis, Barney Kulok, Rashawn Griffin and Keegan McHargue. The artist's photographic work is in a thematically similar mode to photographers Nan Goldin, Larry Clark, Ryan McGinley and Richard Billingham, often depicting scenes of a candid or illicit nature. Instances of sex, drug taking, violence and art-world pretentious…

The Extra Generation: The Monumental Screw-Up of Michael A. Stackpole by Nicholas J. Branski As an aspiring author, I spend a lot of time pouring over reserach material that relates to the topic I intend to write on. Recently I have wanted to write a re-interpritation of the three Star Wars Preqeul movies, Episode's I-III. On top of that I wanted to create an extensive background plot covering the events leading up to the new prequel trilogy. In short, I wanted to re-write most of what happened during the twenty years leading up to the emergence of the Galactic Empire. From all of the Star Wars books I have read, by far my favorite character is Corran Horn. I was introd…

ALBERTO VARGAS was born in Arequipa, Peru, on February 9, 1896, as the son of successful photographer Max T. Vargas. After extensive art studies in France and Switzerland, he immigrated to New York City before World War I and became the official painter for the Ziegfield Follies in 1919. In 1934, he moved to Hollywood, California, where he painted posters and designed sets for major movie studios. When he was hired to replace pinup artist George Petty at Esquire magazine in 1940, his work became so popular that during World War II, his female seminudes adorned uniform jackets, aircrafts, and battleships. In the late 1950s, Hugh Hefner invited Alberto …

There are only two books out so far but I was wondering if anyone has read them. A friend of mine said they are really good but I was wondering if anyone else thought so. I am currently on a waiting list at the library with 19 people in front of me and I was wondering if they are really worth the wait.

i start this thread with Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571 - 1610). i saw one of his paintings on Cole Mohr's blog (such a good surprise!) and it make me thought there wasn't a thread about paining. i discovered his work in 2005 or 2006 because he is a big influence for my favourite photographer, Joel Peter Witkin Biography

i started this thread over at chilax, and thought it should continue over here. so, here are some of my old stuff...everyone feel free to post their prose/poetry some old journal/book entries: “It's 2:20am and I can't sleep. I can feel my bones creaking like old pipes filled with water. I don't know what my bones are filled with that is making them creak so much. Or why they're creaking. Or why I'm paying attention to it all of a sudden. I bet that they've been creaking for years and I just now noticed them. All I know is that I can't sleep because my bones are creaking and I pay so much attention to shit like that…” “The floor tiles were moving…off the floor an…

This is a thread where you introduce your favorite art pieces to BZ. I'd like to limit it to non-performing arts. So paintings, sculptures, architecture, an conceptual art are all acceptable. To get us started: Resurrezione di Lazzaro by Caravaggio Before I start explaining why I like this painting, I should probably mention that I am a great admirer of abstract art. There is very little in the Baroque era that I really love, yet this painting finds itself easily in my top ten. Why is hard to explain without access to the piece itself. Just believe me when I tell you that the picture I included above does not even capture 1/100th of the power of seeing this piece in…

Some of the other designers listed are: Christian Lacroix Karl Lagerfeld Lanvin Helmut Lang Ralph Lauren Bob Mackie Max Mara Missoni Badgley Mischka Issey Miyake Isaac Mizrahi Vivienne Westwood Mulberry Ferragamo The Gap Jean-Paul Gaultier Givenchy Madame Gres Gucci Guess Inc.
