My favourite lyrics (that I can think of now) are: 1. The Killers - All These Things That I've Done "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier." 2.Joy Division - Shadowplay "In the shadowplay, acting out your own death, knowing no more."

As the title says, lets post song that sound similar to some other. I'm not necessarily talking about plagiarism here, though it might be in some cases. But songs that at least coincidentally share some similarities in melody, harmony or such with some other work. I'll start with this song from Rival Sons' first album: Pocketful of Stones This band owes a lot of it's sound to Led Zeppelin, but that song in particular sounds a lot like these 2: Houses of the Holy And Dancing Days

Equivalent to the Guitar Masters thread but this time with singers. Those whose voices amaze you. Be it for their incredible range, on point technique, or maybe because of a beautiful timbre or sheer expressiveness. I'll start with probably the most obvious choice: Freddie Mercury This is amazing: isolated vocals track of The Show Must Go On Incredible and so powerful performance, even more considering he was practically dying by then...

Often and unfairly forgotten, the bass is a fundamental part of any band and it plays one of the most important roles: it defines the harmony while also giving the low end and it also helps setting the rhythmic feel. So lets post those great bass players that go beyond the basics of what the bass should do. Those who deliver creative lines that have their own life within the song. I'll start with sir Paul McCartney, and the isolated bass track of the Abbey Road Medley (from 10:00 to 13:08 is George Harrison playing bass)

Anyone else here who likes listening Classical music? I began paying real attention to this music little more than a year and a half ago, though I enjoyed it before. So far my favorites have been from the Romantic period, such as Beethoven (though is Late Classic/Early Romantic too), Wagner and Mahler. So who are your favorite composers? Favorite pieces of music? Some music of course, and one of my favorites: Ludwig van Beethoven; 9th Symphony, 1st mov. It doesn't have any information about the orchestra or who's conducting...

Blues is one of my favorites genres, and also one of my biggest influences. It is also the biggest influence and the base for almost all of today's popular music, from Jazz, going through Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Funk, Rap, and being also the origins of Rock n' Roll, Hard Rock and even the most brutal Metal genres you can imagine. One it's most basic forms is written around 3 chords and the Blue Notes, that give the Blues it's characteristic sound. On it's most traditional form it follows a 12-bar pattern around the mentioned 3 chords: I - IV - V; which means: If we are on C major, those chords would be: C major - F major and G major. But instead of going…

I love some old 50's Rock n' Roll and Rockabilly. What do you think of these genres? Your favorite artists? And as the poll says: Who's the real King of Rock n' Roll for you? For me it's Chuck Berry. The one who really gave Rock n' Roll it's true form and made the guitar it's main instrument. He was one of the first showmen in the genre too, AND he wrote his own songs. I love Elvis and all, but the true King for me is Chuck Berry. If not, it could be Little Richard. Let's start with some music of course Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode As a genre it takes most of it's sound from the Blues, the urban and electrified Blues from places like Chicago and…

  20. Well, the title pretty much says it all: those songs everybody seems to lose their minds over or those that are considered timeless classics but you just can't stand or simply don't like. I'll start with: Still Loving You - Scorpions Maybe it's because I used to listened to a radio that abused too much of this song and would program it like everyday. Or maybe it's just that I find it too cheesy? Thing is this songs is regarded as one of THE power ballads and I just hate it

Queen are a British rock band that formed in 1970. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon, and drummer Roger Taylor. Queen have been described as giving the greatest live performance ever, producing the greatest single in history, and being the best British band of all time. They have released 15 studio albums, five live albums and numerous compilation albums. In 2009, the band's record label EMI reported their worldwide album sales as over 300 million, as did the BBC and other independent sources. Queen enjoyed success in the UK during the early 1970s but it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack (1974) an…

So... What do you think about Grunge? Which bands you like? For my part, I never considered it that much as a musical genre, but rather a movement. Bands with a similar background, from more or less the same area, and around the same time (Stone Temple Pilots being the exception to almost all of this). My favorite band here would be Alice in Chains, followed by Soundgarden maybe. About the poll: I only included the most know bands, though there's a lot more amazing bands from the Seattle area around the late 80s-early 90s. Such as Screaming Trees, Green River, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, etc... And of course, some music: Alice in Chains - Them Bones
