Stormbringer Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Anyone else here who likes listening Classical music? I began paying real attention to this music little more than a year and a half ago, though I enjoyed it before. So far my favorites have been from the Romantic period, such as Beethoven (though is Late Classic/Early Romantic too), Wagner and Mahler. So who are your favorite composers? Favorite pieces of music? Some music of course, and one of my favorites: Ludwig van Beethoven; 9th Symphony, 1st mov. It doesn't have any information about the orchestra or who's conducting... Quote
Stormbringer Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Another one of my favorites: Mars, The Bringer of War, from The Planets by Gustav Holst. Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Levine Quote
Shepherd Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I grew up on classical, thanks to my Mom. It's all I listen to when driving and sometimes at a low volume while I sleep. One of my favorites. Quote
Stormbringer Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 ^ Awesome! Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring Quote
Shepherd Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 ^ Nice. I always overlook Gershwin. The sounds of the old style brass and woodwind instruments in this are always interesting to me. Quote
Stormbringer Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 ^ The natural horns and trumpets immediately got my attention. Interesting thing! Quite in the baroque style. The only issue with it is that they get out of tune quite a lot Understandable since those are natural wind instruments very different to their today's counterparts, but there were always these strange moments (those out of tune notes) bothering my ear . I think the insignificant (to me) dissonance is what make it fun to listen to. Quote
Stormbringer Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 They give it a particular sound indeed. But to me at least those aren't insignificant and they kind of bother me Well, some more music. We're lacking Mozart here Quote
Shepherd Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I'm sure everybody has heard this piece in some context. Quote
Lyla Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 This is a Hungarian talent show for classical music players or idk how to describe it, but this is one of my fav from the current playlist. Quote
Lyla Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 ^Same show...music from 2.02 I wish that I could play any instruments... Quote
Stormbringer Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 ^ It's never too late! (I wish I could have played anything at such a short age though) And great adds. So much talent (and hours of study!) there. -------------- Gustav Mahler - 5th Symphony 1st Mov. Leonard Bernstein and Vienna Philarmonic. Quote
Lyla Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I'm an anti-talent. I tried at younger age. Or I was just a quitter...But I think it would be much harder to learn now. Quote
jj3 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 ^ It's not fair, i really can't concentrate myself on her music This kind of TV programs miss in France we don't have one, only for pop music ... so thanks Lyla Quote
Stormbringer Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Beautiful and talented AMAZING!!! Those Liszt pieces are awesome. Thanks Lyla Quote
