Biography from Rolling Stone Portishead formed in Bristol, England in 1991 and is credited with being one of the first bands to popularize the trip-hop genre. Their seminal 1994 album, Dummy, brought trip-hop to the British mainstream and introduced the music to the American "alternative" scene. The band is named after the town where founder Geoff Barrow grew up. At the dawn of the '90s, Barrow was making a name for himself as a remixer, working with such artists as Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Depeche Mode. In addition, Barrow had produced a track for Tricky and written songs for Neneh Cherry. Aided by a financial grant, Barrow formed Portishead with vocalist Beth Gibb…

So, do you like Punk Rock? What do you think about it? Well, I'm not the biggest Punk listener, and I'm not THAT familiar with the genre, as I am with another kinds of Rock music. So it would be great to get some feedback and recommendations in this thread too. I listened quite some Punk though when I was 14 - 15 years old, specially the '70s Punk: the bands I listed in the poll. Around that time actually I started writing my own songs, inspired by The Sex Pistols. As for the poll, I listed the "first" three important bands of the genre, as there are so many other around the end of the '70s, early '80s. My vote there goes to The Clash Some music: Proba…

Queen are a British rock band that formed in 1970. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon, and drummer Roger Taylor. Queen have been described as giving the greatest live performance ever, producing the greatest single in history, and being the best British band of all time. They have released 15 studio albums, five live albums and numerous compilation albums. In 2009, the band's record label EMI reported their worldwide album sales as over 300 million, as did the BBC and other independent sources. Pantera Guitarist Killed on Stage A gunman charged onstage at a packed nightclub and opened fire on the band and crowd, killing top heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three other people before a police officer shot him to death, authorities and witnesses said. Police spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio identified three of the victims of Wednesday's shooting as Abbott, who played for the band Damageplan, and two other men, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk. She identified the gunman as Nathan Gale, 25, of the Marysville area northwest of Columbus. She said there was no information on a motive or if he had any connection to the band. I've become a huge fan of The Unthanks. Previously called Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, they are an English folk group from Northumbria. The new album is...can I say exquisite! Just love the voices. http://www.rachelunthank.com/ They won a couple of major awards in the UK last year. Any fans?

So, everyone has heard of Randy Rhodes. Everyone will agree he is the shit, and all his licks are extreamly well put together, fluid, faster than a kid gets food on his face, and darker than Allister Crowley's soul. Why you might ask? I heard once he sold his soul to satan... I don't know why, but I find that REALLY easy to believe... As satan was at one time the Angel of music, so why wouldn't he grant someone amazing musical talent for their soul? DISCUSS!

RBD is a Mexican musical Pop group that gained popularity from Televisa's teenage-oriented telenovela Rebelde. To date, RBD has achieved commercial success with cross-over appeal in non-Spanish speaking countries, most notably in Brazil. RBD has sold over 9.5 million albums worldwide. RBD debuted in December 2004 with the album Rebelde, released by EMI. The main writers for the project were DJ Kafka and Max di Carlo, and their songs proved nearly as popular as the show. The first three singles ("Rebelde", "Solo quédate en silencio" and "Sálvame") were all number one hits in Mexico, with the fourth single, "Un póco de tu amor" reaching number two. A Portuguese language ed…

When it comes to albums that are generally regarded as classics, I always just sort of assume that they'll somehow find me eventually, perhaps via an online article, a review, maybe a chance discovery. Sometimes it's a case of wondering what all the fuss is about, but every so often something will come along that blows me away. So, how about it? What classic albums have you only got round to hearing recently?
