February 2, 201213 yr Thanks for the video guys Behind the Scenes of Prabal Gurung campaign Prabal Gurung's spring 2012 collection, which was inspired by Nobuyoshi Araki's photo series, "Sensual Flower," was an explosion of edgy floral prints, see-through mesh panels and a lot of deep purple. The beauty was equally-severe: slicked-back hair paired with an intense magenta lip (the darkened center resembling an orchid). So when we heard that Candice Swanepoel was the model chosen for Gurung's spring ads, we all let out a collective "Huh." The Victoria's Secret model better known her beachy blonde waves and de facto bikini isn't really a face we associate with the designer.But that was exactly the point. "We sat down and talked about a lot of girls, and decided on Candice," Gurung told us over the phone recently. "You know, we were thinking that we don't want her to look, how do you say it -- expected? I want it to be a surprise. Where people are like, 'Oh wow!'" Which was, indeed, our reaction when we first saw the campaign images. With dark hair and no evidence of a tan, Swanepoel had morphed into one of the austere-looking girls Prabal sent down the runway last season. "The potential was already there in her, you know? And it was all about going dark." The idea to take Swanepoel darker was the result of the shoot's creative team, which included hair stylist Didier Malige, wardrobe stylist Tiina Laakonen and photographer Dan Jackson (who had just shot the model in an earlier project, and initially suggested her). "We all thought that was an amazing idea," recalls Laakonen. "How do you take someone like Candice, who is blond, tan and gorgeous, how do you bring her into that world. We thought first of all about the coloring of the collection; I think the darker hair gives it a romantic feel. The contrast becomes more interesting, so the idea to go dark was really to reinforce the kind of image, going back to the Araki images, which are Japanese girls obviously. We didn't want to make her look Asian in any way, but it was just trying to make the images stronger and more graphic and darker." Gurung knew he "needed a girl who could bring out the sexuality and movement" of Araki's images. And that's exactly what they accomplished with the stunning visuals. "We decided to treat this with some kind of edge," he said. "That was the basis of our collection when I decided to put it on the runway. Between the portraits and the ad campaign, I just wanted to make sure that it was sensual, but it wasn't too vulgar. Just provocative enough, just exciting enough. Just almost crossing the line of misogynous. Just teetering the line of sensual and exciting. Tension is what I wanted to create." stylelist.com style.com
February 3, 201213 yr I think she's gorgeous but its her personality that turns me off. Its like there's nothing there and whenever she's given a interview she doesn't seem humble about anything. I don't know, she just gives me that self absorbed vibe. The reason why I am saying all of this is because I want to like her like some of the other VS models. Anyway, are those her parents on the beach photos? Actually I know what you mean. I used to, for some time, think she was a bit snobby but after watching a few videos I figured out why I was probably coming to that conclusion. Candice is a bit bashful. She is self-conscious because with her job its inevitable. As a model you have to be aware of your body, of every bone, every expression to get the shot they way it needs to be. So that mixed in with her apparently already shy nature creates a bashful personality. But I feel this was her before like 2010 and back. I also sense that she has come to terms with her fame and is mature now. She is very down to earth. Compared to the other VS angels like Chanel or even ex angels like Rosie per say. I see that the fame hasn't distorted her view on the realities of the world and that is very rare in this industry so she deserves the credit. She's real. She likes to connect with her fans while most models could care less. She listens to people. In fact she doesn't like compliments (or negative comments for that matter) to prevent a grandoise sense of self. That means she has her feet well planted on the ground. Im glad for her. I believe her "act" faster than I believe Gisele's third world country mission trips. I really have become a fan of Candice. Her personality really makes her gorgeous much more than she already is.

Her rise in fame just rocketed almost over night (well it certainly felt that way ) I guess it's only natural for her to be swept up in it all. So it was always going to take her while to find herself again in her new surroundings as it were. It reminds me of tennis players. Usually when they taste major sucsees for the first time their results and performance levels drop for the next few months as they deal with the pressures of expectation and so on. Guess it was the same for Candy Yeah I always feel bad for Candice when I read remarks about how she seems like a "bitch" or "stuck up". What immaturity to say that! She just seems like she's a naturally shy girl who's more conscious of what she says in front of the camera than say, Adriana or Miranda. People are different. But you can look at her life and tell she's not a fame-seeker or a bitch in any way. To me, she comes across as a very hard working girl with a truly angelic personality. I adore her!

You can tell she is a major diva but she makes an effort to be pleasant to fans (Y)The way I see it is a model/celeb can be a total bitch and jerk, but all I care about is they are polite and nice to me!
February 3, 201213 yr I personally get the impression that Candice is a total sweetheart and just cute and shy. I think it would be difficult to always have to talk about yourself and be put on the spot when people give you compliments all the time. That would be weird to me. I just think that everyone wants the VS girls to be bitches because they're beautiful but they are probably all really nice people. Anyway... Here are some screencaps that I did of the GQ video.
