Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia (The play on reflections could be stunning!) Gateway to Hell Namaskard, Iceland, and while you're there, take in the hot springs? Upper Antelope Canyon, Navajo Nation Arizona Cano Cristales River, Colombia... Taste the Rainbow Waitomo Glowworm Caves, New Zealand (Depending on how you edit the photos, this could be amazing!) There are a million amazing places on this planet and themes you could go with, how about breaking away from surf & sand and do something themed again like Autumn foliage around the world? Holidays (Halloween in Salem Ma, New England, New Orleans with models in cute bikinis with costume elements like Witches Hats, Sexy Nurses, Pumpkins, etc)... You could put your models in trains and shoot from different themed cars or out on a fishing boat and in or around fishing towns, how about something in the swamps, Christmas with fur bikinis, sleigh rides, snow, themeparks... It would be kinda hot to do a shoot at a Camp around a lake and play up the idea of the Hot Camp Counselor fantasy wearing cute red shorts, bikini top, flip flops, whistle, sitting in a Lifeguard chair, or hell do some more historic out of the way villages and towns all over the world. If you wanted to go futurecast head to Toyko or South Korea stores, shops, bars, nightclubs.. Clauds Posted July 24, 2020 Share Posted July 24, 2020 I don't even have a problem with them using beaches because like, it's a swimsuit issue so I do understand they need to showcase them in beaches and yadda yadda, my problem is with them going to the same places every year, how many times have they been to Bali? Too many, same with Maldives, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas and other places, they keep re-using the same locations over and over again and we've seen them all before. There's more beaches and beach towns out there that they could go to: La Guajira, Colombia - A desert area that meets a beautiful beach, also in the area one of Colombia's pink seas and the salines in Manuare and Cabo La Vela Cartagena, Colombia - A beautiful colonial town by the coast Palawan, Phillippines - Gorgeous beaches but also a bit of jungle, best of both worlds Iceland - Literally any beach in Iceland, not only are the beaches gorgeous but you also are like minutes away from glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls and the most amazing places you could ask for Norway - Again, any beach or fjord in Norway will do the trick, I particularly think Lofoten is the best but the country is full of amazing places, also Northern Lights! Patagonia, Argentina - Good beaches? Check. Mountains? Check. Lakes? Check. Penguins? YES. Overall Patagonia has like a thousand good beaches where they can go, I don't know much about the Chilean side but I'm sure it's also amazing And this is just top of my head, remembering places where I've been or I know my friends have been to. The problem isn't the constant beach shoots, it's the fact that they always go to the same places, there's more to beaches than water and sand but clearly people over at SI don't know that, they go to the most basic places time after time and don't even take the time to explore it, they just go and stay in some resort and that's it. Prettyphile Posted July 24, 2020 Share Posted July 24, 2020 Allegedly, and not first hand knowledge...... none what's so ever....... 🤔 I'm about 85% sure the reason we keep seeing the same places is that the Hotels/Resorts they are staying at allow them to stay for free or at a dramatically reduced rate and the payoff for the stay is a nod in the magazine which boosts interest in vacations. SI publishes their issues for pretty damn cheap. Allegedly - In the past, models have had to pay out of pocket for airline tickets, hotels pay for themselves, and Allegedly swimsuit designers given tens of thousands of suits for free (---- Allegedly - didn't get suits back in the process..... I would love to tell you how SI's own swimsuit line looks a GREAT DEAL like the "free swimsuits" they were given by countless designers but I can't... 🤐) - Allegedly So it's almost pointless to hope they'll change, because they won't till they can figure out how to do it cheaply. Due to COVID-19 I'm sure there will be several places desperate for some promotion in SI, so hopefully MJ and her people will make some good choices instead of giving us the same painfully used and abused Caribbean resort. It's now a sad shell of its former self. If someone other than MJ gets put in charge, there might be an uptick in quality, but it cannot undo the damage that has been done. Clauds Posted July 28, 2020 Share Posted July 28, 2020 According to Google, MJ became Senior Editor in 2014, I'm not sure when in 2014 but this means even the 2015 issue was influenced by the previous editor because they start working in the magazine with a lot of time so I'm sure 2015 was a mix of the previous editor and MJ, so the first time we got a magazine 100% under MJ's reign was 2016. Here's some things that happened in 2016: - Hannah Ferguson was robbed of the cover. - Ashley Graham made her debut in SI and got a cover. - Ronda Rousey made her debut and also got a cover. - Barbara Palvin was a rookie and her career bounced back, probably the best decision from that year. - It was the last year for Irina Shayk, Emily Didonato, Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge. - Mia Kang somehow beat the likes of Caroline Kelly, Daniela López Osorio, Kyra Santoro and Megan Williams in the first of any horrible Model Searches. In contrast, 2015 gave us the beautiful All-American locations issue with Hannah Davis on the cover, a rookie class that had Erin Heatherton, Hailey Clauson, Rose Bertram and Solveig among others. The previous editor, Diane Smith was with the magazine since 1999 and we all know 1999-2013 were damn good editions, 2014 was good too, 2015 was okay and after that it has all become a trainwreck so I'm sorry but I do blame the direction of the magazine on MJ because things started to go downhill the minute she has full power.
