Maybe I’m misunderstanding the discussion, but why can’t we talk about Lameka, Lais, Jas, etc. as individuals without pitting one down if we prefer the other? I mean, we don’t have this same energy with, let’s say, Alexina and the other *cough* more privileged *cough* angels.

The way of the industry made it this way to use "tokens" and people def. complained about Alexina only being there because of her red hair and made suggestions of other better looking red heads. 

The truth of the matter is......not everyone wants to work with VS. I am sure VS went after a lot of the top models and new comers making waves in the industry (all races included) but some prefer a HF career over VS....and to be honest not everyone recovers after working with VS.

I understand this, but the conversation only feeds more into VS and their history of tokenism with the mindset that Jas or Lais should be replaced in order to add another black angel into the lineup, same goes with any other comparison between other models that might’ve been discussed. (This isn’t to say there should be even more Angels than we already have 😳 But I see someone like Stella much more easily replaceable, whether with a model of color or not, especially with Stella having a great career outside VS. I always forget about Stella. They are not really using Jasmine so she may very well be replaced. I rather her be replaced with another model of color then having them add....another blonde. I never understood why Joan Smalls was never "bigger" in the VS brand when she did shoot with them often in the past....she is closet to Tyra as it gets when it comes to personality/some commercial success and also has scoliosis....plus she's afro-latina(yes, I am aware of colorism in latin/hispanic culture).

VS needs to start popping out content so we can stay on topic in this thread. LOL

Well Thot is actually her last name (I believe it’s Nuer tribe native to South Sudan) and Nyadak is her actual first name but since ignorant whites couldn’t pronounce it, her teachers called her Duckie instead lol

Agreed. I always believed when they introduced the 10 Angels it’s shouldve been Lais and Joan. No disrespect to Jasmine but Joan has such amazing presence on and off the runway and would’ve made a perfect Angel...her resume is superb but I doubt she would’ve wanted to be held back by VS. She’s one of the most successful models of color in the industry. What I find interesting about Jasmine is that she’s probably the only black model...well, model of color that has NEVER spoken about the issues models of color face in the industry compared to other models. Unless she doesn’t experience them herself or something but that always caught my attention

I like Jasmine, I think she's a beauty. I like someone like Duckie and Herieth too, and I wished we saw more superbly dark skinned beauty on the runway. But my point is, nobody is saying Lameka can and will replace Jasmine for being black. Plus, VS doesn't care about the shade of black that you are either (or brown). But VS hasn't known to elect more than one angel of the same color. You could compare Lais and Jasmine for their skin color together, but Lais is considered Brazilian. 

 

But to say Jasmine should be kept around just cause her skin color is a different shade of brown is ridiculous. That's just pleasing SJWs. If we really want color, I nominate Duckie Thot for mainline, Herieth for PINK. If the only thing Jasmine has historically got going is her skin color, then maybe it's time for us to realize she's not quite the powerhouse that Chanel & Selita are, let alone Tyra. 

 

Also, I agree with Jasmine lacking presence. And every year that presence just diminishes. Even after she got the FB, her own press events, her mini closing in Punk Angels, her featurette with JoJa not many people still know about her. If I hadn't known her name, I'd know her as just the black angel in the group.

VS poured a lot of attention in to making Jasmine prominent among the angels, and so far only its only minimal returns. VS trying to replace Jasmine vs. me thinking Jasmine should be replaced are two entirely different things. And let's also set one thing straight. Lameka is bland. She's a pretty face with nothing unique. Her body, I can agree. But the girl is young, and certainly hasn't left an impression in me after the whole Gisele twitter thing, and the girl is unheathily thin as of recently. 

 

Lais? What about Lais? I didn't even drag in Lais until you started speaking of Lais. Lais is on another level of popularity, the girl is Brazilian, got FB, received considerable attention, and as far as I know, people notice her and like her. She has great boobs, good walk and has a funny personality. Lameka replacing Lais? Please, not going to happen. Lais is one of VS' best new wave of recruits.

 

Now, let's get to your posts. You think Jasmine should never be replaced because she's a WoC. And my argument is VS doesn't give two shits about the shades of color their angels are. Jasmine's skin tone might be darker than most brown/black angels, but it's not reason enough for VS to keep her around. Historically, I don't remember VS having two black angels at the same time. They only have one black angel at the roster then, and still do now. Selita Ebanks, Chanel and now Jasmine. And what do you do when you want a new black angel? You replace the current one. Whose black and has been some good VS shots lately? Lameka. That's right. Why did you even drag Lais in to this?

 

No one ever touched on Jasmine's skin color until your post came in. The reason why the words "black angel" was used in the first place is because that's just what Jasmine has going for her, which brings me back to the topic of her presence. She has no runway, modeling presence outside of being black. She landed a few HF careers here and there, but hasn't been a prominent figure amongst the angels. 

 

Ain't no one putting down WoC. But using color as a way to say X model should be kept around is plain stupid and SJW-like. A model needs to have color and presence at the same time, and if Duckie Thot or someone blacker/lighter than that has both, I'll gladly get her to replace Lameka and Jasmine just the same.

I believe Lameka shoud replace Elsa.

At the end of the day, all this talk about Lameka possibly replacing Jas or Lais is pure speculation on everyone's part. VS seems to be trying to find a spot for her, and we don't really know what might come out of it. She could easily end like Vita, cast aside for the next girl and no longer relevant for the brand. Some contracts are probably ending next year, and they're trying to decide who to keep and who's leaving, and perhaps discussing adding new girls, but until that happens, no one is replacing anyone. Also, they aren't replaceable. Every girl brings something to the table, even the ones we barely see or dislike. 

For me Lameka will not replace anyone because she doesn't have the level to be an angel. She doesn't have the charisma, the glamor and the body to reach this level.

 

However, I think that nowadays diversity is an obligation for a brand like VS, their last two choices of FB is an example.  I remember a lot saying here that it was impossible to see two women of colors succeed one another for the FB

 

I think that in the future the next groups of angels will be even more diversified than now. So I don't see them just doing replacements but adding diversity to the ones that already exist. I think the profile of the young blonde woman is going to be less domineering. But diversity isn't just about skin color.

Everyone is replaceable, let's be honest here. If they wanted to get rid of five angels and bring five new girls, they would do it in a heartbeat. This is a business, not an actual family.

 

With that being said, VS seems ok with the girls they have right now, I don't think anyone is being getting dropped in the next two years.
