They need to throw some fake tanner on Sui this year. I know she's naturally pale and that's a desirable trait in Chinese beauty standards, but she looked straight up ghostly last year under the stage lights, especially in her all black outfit.

Totally agree. I just don't find this super pale skin tone attractive at all

I doubt think either of us were saying she needed to be an Oompaloompa.  However, because she's so naturally pale, on top of the intense stage lighting, she looked sickly imo.

 

Also, she admits to using bleaching/whitening skin care so it's hardly like that's more natural for her than a tan.

This is not a very popular opinion but some of these Asian women need to take it easy on the pale thing. It is getting ridiculous to the point they do look ghostly. I am not saying they should go tanning or sun bathing but a little color never hurts. Yes I know for some Asians it is difficult to get a tan but maybe put in a drop of bronzer in your makeup? Or got one or two shades darker in your foundation mixing it with your sunscreen/moisturizer? That's what I do year round

It is not even about that but the fact many of these women do stuff to lighten skin when their nature skim complexion is totally fine. As long as they put on at least 30 SPF they should be fine.

I agree. The fact that there are women essentially bleaching their skin to adhere to a beauty ideal that arose from outdated classism should be the first "warning sign." 

 

To the "she's Chinese, let her be Asian" argument, here she is next to Liu Wen, who looks perfectly natural (no doritos here) and Sui is noticeably paler. I'm not saying Sui needs twelve coats of spray tan. I'm just thinking the "dead girl walking" look isn't ideal for a lingerie show.

You can also see it when she is next to Ming who is also Chinese or next to Shu. I adore Sui but she does need to chill out with the skin thing

Portuguese and pretty pale in the winter too but not to Sui's levels (but then again she is asian).. Idk, was she always like this?

I am both Portuguese and Chinese, and I am no where as pal as Sui
