Michael Flynn Resigns as National Security Adviser

Why doesnt it surprise me that 'leaks' are the only effective means of checks on this administration?

In his resignation letter, Flynn claimed he had mistakenly misled vice-president Mike Pence and other Trump officials about the nature of phone calls in December to the Russian ambassador, Sergei Kisilyak. When intelligence leaks about the communications began appearing last month, Pence and other White House officials insisted that the contact had only involved an exchange of Christmas greetings and arrangements for a future phone conversation between Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Someone forgot to tell these smartasses they dont celebrate Xmas on 25th in Russia

The wingnuts' hysterical hatred of Angela Merkel is all the more hilarious when you consider that if she is to lose with CDU, it is almost certainly going to be to a left-wing coalition. So the wingnuts reward for attacking a right-of-center politician will be a left-wing German government. Genius!

This will once again be blamed on the Lugenpresse. Amazing the amount of parallels with 1930s Germany. If they want the comparisons to stop, perhaps they should stop following the playbook so exactly?

The thing is, this administration is obscure and not strong and organized like Hitler's electorate.  He had millions of uniformed men in the S.A.  The comparisons make little sense.  Even many of the republicans that voted for Trump don't really like him.

My guess is that another Marine Corps general will replace Flynn.

After he basically threatened to silence them, Trump was never going to be given an easy ride by the mass media. Obviously, what he said doesn't necessarily mean that he's on some kind of mission to unpick the first amendment, but taken in isolation it’s a bit worrying. Not because I love CNN or the BBC, but because the President should always be answerable to the press, including the more hostile sections of it.

Trump can't silence them, he just pre-empted them by calling them "fake news".  The reason why is that the mainstream organs simply follow in lock-step with DNC agendas, attack all their opponents, and repeat the same tropes over and over again.  That's the real 1984/PRAVDA and in this regard they are at the same intellectual level as FOX.  But they outnumber alternatives greatly. I remember seeing a Gallup poll about media trust in the US and it was down to around 33% and only half the electorate votes.

Obama's record-breaking popularity back in 2007/2008 had a lot to do with the media cheer-leading him everyday like a propaganda machine.   He won the Nobel peace prize before he even did anything!  They were claiming that Obama would save America and create the greatest new area of economic growth, social justice, and prosperity.  IIRC around 2008 or 2009 he unveiled the "New Green economy".

Yeah, SPD is the alternative, and for chancellor of Germany, they nominate Schulz, who has just an elementary school degree, no comment.

But the opposition of merkelian policies is why AfD is at 17-something % now, so what they're doing is sensible.

Otoh, charlie hebdo is just a gutter-press magazine.
