February 10, 20169 yr @Lyla Barbi is "a female of average weight with the classic hour-glass figure". End of story.
February 10, 20169 yr For what it's worth, a new study asserting BMI is bullshit gets published about as often as the standard edition of Sports Illustrated. So yeah. But talk of BMI or "health" in the context of this announcement is, as I'm sure most are aware, pure concern trolling. One friendly tip: Claiming to oppose "political correctness" is a rhetorical tool of the political right that attempts to discredit social justice, and treating people who are different with respect, as insincere and cynical acts. Deploying it in defense of one's own statements is to call the Trumps, Farages, and Le Pens to your aid. You're saying, "No, actually, it's right to punch down." So, good luck with that.

I would like to see the study ? And who made it ? McDonalds ? And that's it, we are it ! We're an extremist just because we're saying what we think ... So you think that political left is not using "political correctness" as an ideology of substitution ? The new rule is, you're with it and all is ok, or you're against and all of sudden you become the black sheep... ? It's not very respectuous of freedom of expression ... Are we still talking about Ashley being the next rookie of SI ? Or you're just there to defend political correctness ? I didn't knew that political correctness was going to be the next rookie of the year
February 10, 20169 yr The only thing I will say on the matter: BMI considers only TWO factors: height and weight. And index derived from only those 2 numbers can in no way give an accurate picture of a person's health (unless it is on any of the 2 extremes of the spectrum). It doesn't give any information about the fat percentage, how much mass is made of muscle or many other things whatsoever that are actually medicine concerns. So yeah, judging anyone's health based solely on BMI it is bullshit.

I didn't knew that political correctness was going to be the next rookie of the year The most recent one comes out of UCLA and was published in a peer-reviewed academic journal of actual medical researchers (link). As for the rest of it, I'm suggesting that "political correctness" as such does not exist. It's an empty rhetorical device used to justify hate speech under the guise of speaking truth to power. But hey, you're the one citing "PC" so you can talk shit about Ashley Graham. If you want to be mad on the internet in a thread that was, mere weeks ago, shitposting spiders, go nuts. I just wanted to point out in my own way what you were doing. I've said my piece.

February 10, 20169 yr So ok...Let's forget BMI... I didn't know that overweighted people were that much healthy. Thanks guys for the info And ok @Memento Mori for your lights on the subject...And thanks also for the speech on Emrata's thread. It's very interesting... I'm a hater just because i find Ashley overweighted... there too, very interesting way to create your logic. With or without, nothing between the two hypothesis. I'm doing something, but in telling this : " I just wanted to point out in my own way what you were doing. I've said my piece. " You're doing something too. I guess you're not SO neutral in this story either. I give my opinion, and you give your opinion, in being not respectuous of my opnion. Who is not respectuous ? Ashley Graham is overweighted, that's all. Deal with it. You won't change my opinion in calling me hater Ashley is not looking healthy, not according the BMI, not according what you want...but according what i'm seeing on my screen. Or maybe my screen is also a hater, idk
February 10, 20169 yr 1. If someone posts a bunch of times about how another person is "overweighted," they are a hater 2. jj3 posts a bunch of times about how Ashley Graham is "overweighted" ____ 3. jj3 is a hater The way I create my logic seems valid and sound to me. Both premises are true and the conclusion follows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Very democratic ...See my logic now: 1. you see me for the 1rst time today +2. you call me hater 2 time in 2 messages +3 you're not able to see Ashley is overweighted = you're not respectuous of different opinions than yours, and you need eyeglasses (i'm wearing eyeglasses, yes i say that before you call me hater for the 3rd time in 3 messages )
February 10, 20169 yr Overweight. Respectful. Okay, I feel better now. I love how something as frivolous as bikini modelling can cause such a shit storm. Regardless of where people stand, it's a magazine that shows off scantily clad women. I highly doubt the world is going to end because Ashley is in the magazine. But hey, if it does, it was only a matter of time considering everything else going on in the world.
February 10, 20169 yr http://www.si.com/swim-daily-ashley-graham-finds-out-si-swimsuit Would be nice if these existed for every model.

And you just need to look at her. You can see why, don't need to mesure her waist. I understand what you mean, different bodytypes, etc. But fat is a bodytype too, deal with it. Fat will be your new N word or what? And why I see her fat?...there's SS's post, I guess that's why, this type is not so common here, or just being called as what it is, overweight. I'll use this from now then. Well it is very, very unlikely that Ashley would meet the WHO standards for being overweight.
February 10, 20169 yr 4 hours ago, jj3 said: Yes i brought BMI ...Like Medicine is doing But i never said "...and all thin people are the epitome of good health is ridiculous...". But what @17 Moments of Spring brought is useful to the dabate also. I said, that when someone is in the green part of the BMI, it feel better phisically and MENTALLY than when you are in the red part. Of course some people feel good how they are, and it's GREAT. But when they try to convince me that they wonderful, BECAUSE they overweighted, well, i don't eat the soup... The thing about BMI is that it is a useful tool to measure the health of populations (by taking the average BMI of a group) not necessarily of individuals. A common criticism used is that BMI would deem some pro athletes (who are all muscle) as being overweight. But then, such considerations matter less when measuring the health of large groups, since most of us aren't professional athletes.

I checked her BAI, based on her numbers given out of her agency, and she was 0.5% under overweight category. If this makes all ppl think that they're right, then just go with it. She's definitely a lucky one, because her face and neck look nice. And because not all of her fat is on her stomach, but mainly on her arms and legs. The rest is just the game of numbers and different associations' statements and studies etc. And what you told before, the beholder of the eye... If I offended anyone who has the same body type like her or weight problems, then I'm sorry for that. But I still keep my opinion, that she's overweight. But as I said in my first referring comment I find her beautiful and pretty and it's applauseable that she can appear in SI. It's just hard for me to see her with other eyes. I think it's the case of critical mass. There are so many ppl with conditions like this that the opinions like mine will be the minority.
February 10, 20169 yr Well at least a few hours until the next rookie reveal, something else to complain about for pages.
