August 12, 20159 yr Nic Pizzolatto is not related to the success of the first season that much imho. Characters or story wasn't so much better than now... McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, nice pictures, atmosphere and editing made last season great.
August 12, 20159 yr Season one was fun because of the McConaissance, Fukunaga's excellent directing and the fact that we hadn't yet figured out that all of the mysticism would lead absolutely nowhere.
August 12, 20159 yr ^^Yeah. The last episode of the first season was a total failure. It fits to the second season more.
August 12, 20159 yr Author ^ The last episode of the first season totally ruin the whole season. It was so lame!
August 12, 20159 yr The sad thing is that the bare bones of the season could have made for a decent TV show: a dirty cop and a criminal are tied together by a lie and find themselves (separately but at the same time) confronted by institutional evil that will force them to either bend or break. But Nic Pizz turned it into a needlessly complex and at times staggeringly boring spectacle.
August 12, 20159 yr On balance, I think a higher level could have been reached had it been pared down to six episodes instead of eight, to keep it moving at a better pace. The finale was a perfect example of that, the first ten minutes were pure padding and indulgent soul-searching, which brought the narrative to a complete standstill. Overall, Pizzolatto was probably hampered by his own ambitions. It reminded me at times of reading a potentially good novel, but one in desperate need of a decent editor. Â Positives for me were the music, the sense of place and the acting too, for the most part. Vaughn was devoid of subtlety, but both Farrell and McAdams impressed me. Although I was disappointed that Ani was reduced to the role of a doting girlfriend when up to that point, she'd been as much a part of the action as anyone.
August 13, 20159 yr I actually thought they underused Los Angeles as a location. So much of it took place indoors, in dark rooms/bars. Louisiana was really one of the characters in season one. This was far less so for season two.
April 12, 20178 yr It would seem that some progress has been made behind the scenes towards creating a third season of TD, with McConaughey reportedly offering to reprise his role. Honestly, I don't know if seeing the further adventures of Rust would appeal to me that much, but it should be interesting to see what their preferred direction is.
May 27, 20177 yr I watched about half of the first episode and was bored, not much to go on I know I'll have to go back and watch more at a later time. Â Back log of movies/TV shows to watch
May 30, 20177 yr David Milch being added to the creative team is one of the best things to have happened to this show. If he gets enough creative control for season 3, it might end up being the best season yet.

January 11, 20196 yr Author Let's hope Season 3 is just as good as Season 1 Season 2 was crap  PLOT: The story takes place in the Ozarks over three separate time periods, as partner detectives investigate a macabre crime involving two missing children.  Â

January 16, 20196 yr Given that a few years have passed now since the last season, I have high hopes for this one. The most compelling thing about the first season for me was the toll taken on the people investigating the case, and it looks like they might be returning to that theme.
