People, just because you aren't personally offended doesn't mean that something did not cause offense.

Secondly, the headdress mess is 100% on VS' hands. It displays a level of cultural insensitivity that is rather baffling for such a big company.

I stated (half-jokingly) that they need a VP of common sense for their outfits, but perhaps they really should hire someone for that job. :p

It's not the first time VS (or any fashion brand for that matter) has used attributes from one culture for one of their outfits with hardly any criticism, so why is this one any different?

Basically we Natives need to stop differentiating themselves from the rest of the country. We are in the end American, if we want to be part of the nation we need to accept that. No one is saying we can't retain our cultural heritage but we all need to stop bitching about the atrocities of the past. We learn from it yes, but it's not like people are running around scalping us and getting paid to do so anymore.

Hey, hey, hey

My grandmother is half native so I can say this joking *not really joking cause I'm a culturally insensitive bitch* ...WE (yes you and I) made out like bandits ... Natives across the land got a butt load of non-taxed casinos, making billions a year. Not my fault the elders aren't handing out the cash to the tribes. That meth and free health care son.

Hell Lisa makes 4 to 10k a month for being native and she doesn't do f*ck all. Including celebrate her culture.

I am pretty sure they did it on purpose to start up controversy and publicity in hopes of increasing their ratings.

So lets face it the Native American outfit is the easiest to make sexy and also the flashiest. I think giving them some sort of altruistic diabolical plot behind the creation of said outfit is a little farfetched.

Calling it "altruistic diabolical" is farfetched. I would not describe it to that extent nor did I meant to imply that.

The point is most of us are all talking about it and are having strong opinions (for or against) = VS' mission accomplished :PinkCouture2:

For that 1 Native who gets up in arms over this outfit, there's 60 white people who are breaking out the banners and saying it's culturally insensitive. They aren't getting offended because of their culture, white people are getting offended on behalf of their culture because of residual guilt. Move on, get over it.

Germany has moved forward from the debacle of WWII.

^^While I think it is important to remember the past and learn from it, I also do believe that people aren't responsible for the sins of their elders. Karlie, VS and the rest of America today have nothing to do with the Native genocide, hardly anybody in Europe is still alive from those who took part in the Shoah and the other genocides that took place 75 years or so ago. They shouldn't have to feel guilty for something they didn't do. If you're a jerk that's your fault. If your ancestor was a jerk, there's not much you can do.

I choose to believe that, through choosing Thanksgiving and through that outfit, VS was celebrating the Native culture, not disparaging it. Sure they did it in a tacky way, but then again, when isn't VS tacky?

Also, re:Karlie, I don't mind her for PINK or lounge or whatever, but I am slightly irritated by the fact VS pushes her as one of their main faces because she doesn't fit my idea of the brand as a whole. Likewise I think Lindsay is much more fitted for the cute or sophisticated type of products, while Candice is better suited for Swim or the more Bombshell type of stuff.

:flower: I agree. I don't really understand it in the end because I'm not from America. But hey if it's about things like this why in movies Hollywood produces do Arabic, Russian and Asian people always have to be the bad guys. Just saying if people are getting crazy over one outfit in a fashion show, might as well go after every other sterotypical possibly offensive things America does to other cultures. My mum is Lebanese so I go and watch movies and see Arabic people as the bad guys all the time. Why? My family aren't bad like that. But I don't get offended cause whatever it's just fake. In the end the VSFS is a fantasy. It isn't meant to offend anyone. I think people just get crazy over the tiniest things. But look at what they've done, those smart bastards. We are discussing it and it's getting heaps of press. So if they wanted to cause a stir. They did. Bravo VS.
