Sara did the VSFS 2011 and 2012 casting and she didn't got It. In 2013/2014, she worked out like crazy and yes, she did lost weight and a lot of people said she was "too skinny" but guess what? She got the VSFS, not to mention her most important editorial to date, Vogue Italia, and her Vogue Spain cover, her first one out of Portugal. It sucks, but loosing weight did help her career. That's how the industry Is. However, I do think, she put some weight on recently. In the group pictures It's pretty clear she Isn't one of the skinniest girl at all. And about the pizza thing, just follow her on spachat, she definitely eats It lmao. A pizza for week will make her sane, not fat...

I don't follow models much at all, but Sara Sampaio looked facially beautiful to me in photos so she kind of caught my attention. However, I actually saw her at the airport a couple of days ago, and found the reality to be markedly different. She is painfully thin, and in truth not much better looking than the average girl (imo 7.5 or 8/10). It was an eye-opener as I had never seen a "supermodel" in the flesh before. The make-up artists, hair stylists and photographers really do quite a job on them.

 

On the pizza thing, she can eat a slice of pizza every day if she wanted. At 300 calories or so it's only a 1/5th of maintenance (1,500 cals) for a female.

Not even remotely mean, it's an honest opinion and one that I've heard many times from designers who work with SI and have met and or worked with with Sara over the years. The comments are very similar to the OP's

 

I've stood a foot and a half from her and I'm telling you OP is pretty spot on (imo). What she lacks in beauty or body she makes up for with a sweet as can be personality. She's very engaging, comforting, and down to earth (same with Nina btw). VS loves them personalities yo...

Wow. Never thought Sara was a knock out or anything but reading these last posts, I gotta say, I thought she'd at least have a face u can admire when you get to meet her. Obviously all these, models/celebs don't look quite as glammed up in real life as they do in magazines/catalogs, but has anyone here ever seen a model face to face and thought, she truly is a stunning woman? Curious!

You never know which model actually looks striking in person and who is just photogentic but average looking in real live. It's just the truth.

I'm often surprised to hear these stories, for example Grace Mahary, she does look kinda odd in pictures but I've heard that these simply don't do her justice and that she's super beautiful in real life.

Plus personality/charisma and attitude do make a huge difference and can boost someone's beauty significantly.

Sorry to put you on the spot , but whats your impression of her work in SI AND VS ( show, catalog) last two years?/

I've honestly never paid attention to her VS work till recently because of Saylor (if that tells you anything ), however the little I have seen has been just okay, nothing stand out, and sure as hell not "wow", but here's the hoping right? As for SI.... o.o I can honestly say I've haven't seen a single picture I've been interested in or found memorable in the least - and if SI dropped her this year I wouldn't be upset about it.

 

Overall a she's a pretty girl, but not a great model, and her work is fairly boring (Shanina feels), but I wish her well and hope she sticks around with VS for a couple years if only so we can cute snapchat videos of her and Taylor

I'm not suprised on the info of sara encounters... Honestly the only VS models I hear people are amazed by looking good as expected in person are candice and adriana.

 

 

Even just recently I saw somebody say something very similar about Ana BB they met her a few weeks ago and said sadly she was disappointing in looks and personality(wonder why)

 

 

But with sara its not surprising to me she gets more hype from her photoshoots and instagram photos. Esp when it comes to those adriana comparisons. There are people who think she is a better version of adriana because of social media pictures and I always felt like, unless her makeup is outstanding, her appeal is taken down some when you see her in candids. Not surprised by the airport story, even though I feel like just a little slack should be cut because she may have been jet legged. even the most beautiful people can look out of it every now and then

Who looks good after a red eye flight from NY. I've seen Sara last year. I thought she looked nice, but not stunning. It was on the beach so she was using little to no make-up, and still I thought she looked good. But they way she was to people who approached her was what made me like her even more than I already did. (I did not talk to her though. I just did not have the corage to do it)

Modeling is more how you carry yourself and what you do in front of camera.

As for SI, different topic I know, but IDK why SI keep sticking with MJ, given her casting choices lately. A few girls in the previous issues, lets say it is debatable whether they should even be in the issue.

I've met all the VS angels. In my opinion, the most stunning in person are definitely Adriana (the most) followed closely by Candice, Alessandra, and Miranda. Adriana is otherworldly.

 

I saw Elsa without make up and thought she was pretty plain. She looked very washed out and pale. She definitely comes alive with tanning and proper make up. Same for Behati and Doutzen. Kendall Jenner is also the epitome of plain in person. Hell, she's plain in photographs too.

 

As for non-angels, Cintia Dicker and Edita are fucking beautiful in person. Cintia's eyes are so damn blue and have a stunning contrast to her red hair and tanned freckled skin. Edita just has a face that looks like it was carved by a god and she carries herself in a super effortless way.

 

Regarding Sara, I definitely agree with the comments above. I think part of it is that she's so short. She naturally doesn't have that long, elegant, imposing height and body that models are expected to have. She's just super skinny. Her face is really pretty but not really in-your-face striking like other models. However, her attitude is amazing and she's a super sweet girl.

Sara's VS work in my opinion has been absolutely great since the very begining. Sadly, she was waisted in pink. I remember back in 2012 being sure Sara Sampaio and Barbara Palvin would be the next VS big duo. They were so young, had 2 of the most incredible faces and were killing It.

The thing with Sara Is that along with Emily Didonato and Barbara Palvin she was one of the most natural beautiful faces in the industry back then. Sara just had that amazing bone structure but still a baby face along with her stricking features and that was really unique. Unfortunately, when she lost weight she lost her baby face as well, not to mention that her body in my opinion was better back then.

 

 

About the pictures/meeing in person debate I think when a model looks better in work than in person that's a good thing, right? That's the point of being a good model. And I think expecting someone to look incredible after a day of work and a long plain travel Isn't really fair.

Plus models aren't necessarily supposed to be pretty. They're supposed to be striking. There's a big difference.

Casual reminder: Models are human, do not expect these women to look flawless 24/7 because it is NOT possible.

I've read so many times that Adriana is not that beautiful in person and all kinds of stuff, I adore her and I sincerely think she is the most beautiful woman I've seen but to expect her to look as good in person as she does while at work is unrealistic, unfair and pretty much stupid. And that applies to Sara too and every other model too, i bet you all don't get your hair and makeup done or wear the most flattering outfits for a long flight, to go shopping or your daily life. So find some chill for Christ's sake, and stop expecting these women to be perfect because that is just not possible.

I think Sara has lost and gained weight through the years but that is completely normal, she is 24 now and you can't expect her to still look like she did when she was 18, that wouldn't be normal, all women struggle with weight through the years. I think her VS work has been great from the start and her SI work too, so that is just a matter of simple opinions, but VS cares also about her as a spokesperson and not just pictures and everyone who has met Sara seems to agree she has the right attitude for it even if she's not physically ones favorite and she is killing it lately so she must be doing something right.
