Wounded Czech supermodel makes rapid recovery after tsunami ordeal

PRAGUE (AFP) - Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova, who was seriously injured in the Asian tsunami on December 26, has been discharged from a Prague hospital and is making a rapid recovery.

"Her health is getting better and better. She can already climb stairs by herself, although she still can't lean on her left foot," , the Czech daily Pravo quoted her father, Oldrich Nemec, as saying Wednesday.

After leaving Prague's military hospital on Friday, Nemcova went to her hometown of Karvina, in the northeast of the country, where she will recuperate in a mountain chalet owned by her grandfather. Her father declined to say when she would speak to the press.

The 25-year-old model broke her pelvis and sustained internal injuries in Thailand. She survived by clutching to a tree for eight hours after her beach cabin was destroyed and she was swept away by a wave.

Her boyfriend, the British photographer Simon Atlee, 33, is still listed as missing.

One of the top models for lingerie maker Victoria's Secret, Nemcova appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated's 2003 Swimsuit Edition.

Heard that she has left the hospital and is recovering back in her hometown of Karvina. It's good to see that she has made a fast recovery and is back on her feet.
