I saw something funny (and frustrating) on this recently. A guy was being interviewed and he said the best fix for the future would be for the financial companies to change the way they work and basically police themselves. Such a dumb suggestion because they would never do that voluntarily. These are the kind of situations for which government should be the solution. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that that way when enough of the politicians are just as dirty and corrupt as the so-called "bad guys".

^^ Essentially no laws or regulations have been put in place as a result of the crisis that would help prevent another one. So, of course it will happen again.

I meant to ask a couple of days ago if anyone thought Pauline was prettier than her sister but I forgot to. There is something different in the face, I think.

The Academy has added a new award for Best Popular Film. I guess they were tired of hearing people complain about the Best Picture winner being a movie no one saw, so they added an award for movies people did see.

That's good news. I need a new computer, but mine is not under warranty. My main problem is I don't know what I want so I have made no progress in deciding what to buy.

100% of what. This one I remember and is easy to explain. I usually avoid these types of conversations (for multiple reasons). After I posted something, I remembered that and decided I didn't want to have it up anymore. As a side note, I think I am more likely to delete a post now that we can't edit any post after a week.

I didn't say I had never thought about it before today, just that it was something I thought about today. Today I was thinking about it more from the standpoint of the momentum of these types of situations. News reporting, for example, is always going to push the initial story and any retraction is going to be given less weight because the story of a particular person has lost impact. This is, of course, similar in other situations (work, school, etc.).

Random thought I had today: I imagine one of the worst things about being falsely accused of abuse is that the accusations will always receive significant attention but there is little (or no) attention paid once the accusations are shown to be false.
