May 15, 20169 yr Debating on whether I should join the gym. I need to achieve what seems like a relatively high score in 3 Subject SATs, can't not do them either, so got those to worry about but exercise would help with making me procastinate less + it's good for the brain and dealing with anxiety to a certain extent (which I'm practically drowning in) This got me feeling like George Costanza.

If you can find a gym with a relatively low membership cost, I would highly recommend it! I joined my first gym a few months back, and am really happy with the decision. Although I can't say it helped me procrastinate less when it came to exam week. I ended up going to the gym more to avoid studying. But it really does make you feel better, even if you just go for a quick half hour workout 3 or 4 times a week. I feel a lot better, and have more energy which makes studying a lot easier! Or you could listen to the stupidest advice I've ever heard, and just eat less, because a woman's only fitness goal should be to be thinner. How obtuse.

How obtuse. Yeah, that's terrible fitness advice in general! I wonder if a meathead said that. You actually have to eat to lose weight. What is your fitness if you don't mind my asking?

What is your fitness if you don't mind my asking? I'm assuming you mean fitness goal? I'm terribly terribly out of shape. Blessed with one of those Asian metabolisms that resulted in being rather slim, but meant I literally avoided all extra physical activity for the last twenty years of my life. I'm really exercising to improve my health more than anything and if I end up with Elsa's waistline as a bonus I won't complain . I'll usually do a 2 quick 30 minute cardio sessions and then 1 or 2 1hr cardio/weight classes a week depending on my schedule. Nothing crazy or strenuous. Mostly just get my lazy ass moving.

That's awesome that you see something you'd like to change about yourself and are doing something about it. I'm sure you already know this, but you need to do what works best for you i.e. diet, work outs, etc. You find that out through trial and error. Set realistic & attainable goals for yourself. Remember results don't happen overnight and take time. I hope I don't sound too preachy and wanted to share some wisdom with you. I have more tips too btw. At any point you can tell me to shut the fuck up and I won't get offended. I want to wish you the best of luck on your fitness & life changing journey
May 17, 20169 yr @toodarnhot Thank you for the advice The gym nearest to me is 3km, but this month they've got a special for joining, normally it'd be I think around $130 in total (incl the joining fee + access card) but this month the whole thing just costs $29 so it's a good deal, I think their fees are around $12 a week, which is probably the cheapest you can get in this country. The whole thing about having more energy is definitely a positive thing, I'm a little fatigued lately so I need it. You think 3 x 1 hr cardio and weight sessions are reasonable for a beginner? There's too much good food around to eat less in this day and age I'm already relatively thin now so no way do I need to go even thinner. I'd rather gain some muscle in some parts so it looks nice and toned, kind of like Jasmine Tookes.

If your gym has classes I would recommend trying some out and seeing what kind of exercise you like the best. My gym has some of the "trendy" classes like Zumba (which I hate) and Ballet Barre (which I love), and you can learn a lot of good moves that you can incorporate into your own routine! Do your squats! I went home to visit my family last weekend, and three of my cousins commented on how good my butt looked.
May 17, 20169 yr @toodarnhot I don't think mine has any, we've just got the regular gym equipment and there's personal trainers as well. The other gym that's closest to me (I think around 7km out) does have classes but it's pretty small and the fees are way higher. Back in junior year a couple of years back we went to this gym where they made us do a few classes, there was this weight class, Zumba, some intense pilates thing and I can't quite remember the other thing. Zumba freaked me out, their instructors are very into the routine, never have I seen people so enthusiastic Spoiler About squats, I do them already at home (side squat, sumo squat, narrow squat), plus lunges and some bridges. Usually I do them with dumbbells as well since I got 2 5kg ones, idk if that's a low weight for any significant butt toning? Like I got a butt, I just need it to be lifted more. How long did it take you to get good results? Still procrastinating trying to learn physics though
