February 18, 201411 yr Author ^ Oh her! I could see her being on the show but I am not sure would they cast her b/c she is already on "The Following". Catherine Keener would be interesting to see on the show. ------------------------------------------- Episode 6 preview:
February 18, 201411 yr The scene where they run through the thicket, while testifying at the same time that they were under the fire, brilliant. Every Court would believe the version of the characters. I liked it, but now it's just the great
February 19, 201411 yr http://io9.com/the-one-literary-reference-you-must-know-to-appreciate-1523076497 Very interesting, it looks at the show through its many references to the work of Richard W. Chambers.
February 20, 201411 yr Author ^ Great article. Thanks! Matthew confirmed there will be a new cast for season 2---him and Woody will not be returning to star in the series. I guess he also inadvertently confirmed there is a season 2
February 24, 201411 yr Author Speculation: There was more focus on Marty's oldest daughter, Audrey, in the last episode. She is the rebel and less well-adjusted of the two girls. I think her role will be more significant in the episodes to come. She encounters The Yellow King's cult maybe? We will see ----------------Here’s A ‘True Detective’ Theory That You Might Have Overlookedhttp://www.uproxx.com/tv/2014/02/true-detective-theories-misguided-opinion/
February 24, 201411 yr Author I don't think Marty is The Yellow King but this is still a fun read. I also noticed from the beginning the name of the show is True Detective---singular True Detective's Biggest Clue About the Yellow King Has Been Right Under Our Noses http://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/hbo-true-detective-poster-yellow-king-clue-195650813.html
February 24, 201411 yr Author BTW, I usually watch the recent episode on my way to work either the next day or the day after. Please be considerate by using spoiler tags when discussing episodes. Thank you!
February 24, 201411 yr Had a look at the opener. I wouldn't say I’m completely hooked but clearly, there’s a lot to like. The languid pacing is like watching a novel unfold onscreen, there's a dreamlike atmosphere that you could cut with a knife, and the promise of there being no irritating cliffhangers to negotiate is an added bonus. The actual murder mystery element is neither here nor there for me at the moment, I'm more interested in finding out out exactly why the two leads are seemingly estranged. When they spoke about each other, the tension was palpable (Rust never sleeps? Arf! ). I do hope they’re going to give Michelle Monaghan more to do in the coming episodes though, it's hard not to be suspicious of writers who can't (or won’t) portray women as anything other than dead bodies or prostitutes. Weak point of this series is a bit similarity to Hannibal, similarities with the Killing are acceptable because of screenwriter. Agreed, I thought the antlers and the elaborate posing of the victims were very reminiscent of 'Hannibal', which I just couldn't stick. Drearily paced, pretentiously arty and generally imposible to take seriously, while simultaneously taking itself incredibly seriously. Thankfully, nothing else in 'True Detective' reminded me of it.
February 26, 201411 yr Author Episode 6: Throughout the season they have been alluding to the attraction & chemistry between Rust and Maggie. However...I can't believe they would actually have sex!!! Very disappointed in you, Rust!!! I know he is a substance abuser but I thought his sense of moral would prevent him from crossing the line. And Maggie...so manipulative and conniving but good job on hitting Marty where it hurts the most "Buy you a beer?" *few seconds later* "Actually why don't you buy me a beer." ------------------------------------------ Two more episodes left... March 5, 201411 yr On a separate note, I think the visuals of the opening credit sequence is kinda neat.
March 6, 201411 yr Author ^ I agree! I also try to watch the opening credits carefully looking for clues and easter eggs Finale prediction: Rust dies. Probably gets killed somehow.
March 6, 201411 yr ^ I agree! I also try to watch the opening credits carefully looking for clues and easter eggs Finale prediction: Rust dies. Probably gets killed somehow. Agreed on prediction. Either that or he somehow gets railroaded for the murders, or otherwise ends up unhappy and alone... don't see a happy ending for him, or pretty much any of the good guys! I can't believe the finale is only an hour long, I want more! Also, director Cary Fukunaga, who is great, won't be returning for season 2. Looks like next year will have a whole new director, cast, storyline, everything.
March 6, 201411 yr Author Agreed on prediction. Looks like next year will have a whole new director, cast, storyline, everything. I agree... There is no way Rust will live happily every after. I don't think Marty will either but I don't see him dying. Rust is pretty much emotionally dead and it seems like he is holding onto the case as something to live for and to keep him going. Assuming the case gets solved, he will have nothing and death is the only ending for him. Some people think he might commit suicide. I don't see it. For some reason I see him getting shot. Maybe taking a bullet for Marty or trying to save someone. I think he will die in that place Dora wrote about in her journal. Yeah, I just read on FB Fukunaga isn't back next season Pizzolatto said in an interview he is considering have two female leads for season 2. That should be interesting
March 8, 201411 yr Agreed on your predictions for sure. And two female leads?? That sounds like an interesting and a stark change from the machismo of this season. Ahhh can't wait for the finale!
March 8, 201411 yr I think the problem with Fukunaga's non-return is that he (Nic Pizzolatto) wants to have multiple directors next season. Not because he was unsatisfied with Fukunaga's work, but that the production process for season two will be such that they will be required to film and/or edit multiple episodes at a time (GoT style).
March 8, 201411 yr Author ^ I have not seen GoT yet Fukunaga is already working on projects so even if Pizzolatto wants him back for season 2 it wouldn't be possible. Maybe for future seasons. As much I like the idea of having one director for the whole season, from a production standpoint it isn't very practical. Since the series is an anthology I think Pizzolatto wants every season to be it's own story, central theme, style and etc

March 10, 201411 yr Well I was utterly wrong in my predictions and wasn't at all expecting that! I think the problem with Fukunaga's non-return is that he (Nic Pizzolatto) wants to have multiple directors next season. Not because he was unsatisfied with Fukunaga's work, but that the production process for season two will be such that they will be required to film and/or edit multiple episodes at a time (GoT style).
