Sensual Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 I'm think about how infuriating it is that somebody can think they are getting their point across when they say "it's current year, there is no debate on this." Quote

This guy's model is more refined (and I do like Bayesian inference, it's often a nice way of tackling an issue), but there are still many uncertainties. Anyway, it's always entertaining to look at these types of papers. Quote

Enrico_sw Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 The Entertainment (Re-education) Industry taking a dump on Aliens, Forrest Gump, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Splash, Cowboy Bebop (and many more) is problematic. Or shall I put it this way? That's what Disney and their vandal buddies look like now: Quote

All in all, it's a matter of collective awareness IMO and we rarely understand the present until it becomes the past (and even then, we never fully understand it) Quote

If you want to take it further, check out the Fermi paradox and the assumption of a great filter. BTW, Fermi is one of my favortie physicists. I loved particle physics (I still love it), it's a shame I never really had to use it real life Quote
Enrico_sw Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I watched The Last of Us part 2 videos. It made me want to puke. Many people are out of characters in this game (particularly Joel). The gameplay looks good (but I hear it's pretty simplistic to play), the graphics are good (but I don't feel they are as good as RDR2 or Horizon Zero Dawn), but the storyline is bad. Really bad. Some characters are pretty devious. Quote

I don't know if I have a favorite, but there are ones that I definitely really like. On the top of my mind: Laplace, Lagrange, Feynman (funny and great - I would've loved to discuss with this guy), Fermi, Planck, Bohr, Newton (crazy guy, but genius), Carnot, Landau, etc. There are many great ones. I don't know if I can make an exhaustive list, but I like people with great stories and genius moments. For example, the story behind Schrödinger equation is great (he said he figured it out while having sex, apparently a particularly intense episode ) The Bernoulli family is funny too. They had several famous physicists who made many great theories, but you never know which Bernoulli did what (too many of them). Quote

I tried the Moab2 recently, 10.5 2E. The Vibram sole seems stronger than a regular sole but wow, is it heavy and a bit bulky. It seems like 50% + heavier. The Moab2 is also a bit oddly designed. Before I ordered this online, circa Jan-Feb (pre covid) I did try them in stores. My feet size is approx. 10 3E (extra wide) or 10.5 2E. I tried the 10 2E. I found it a perfect fit for the toes but the arch was tightly gripped. The Toe area is approx. 3E rather than 2E. The arch feels like it's in between 2E and a regular width shoe. The 10.5 2E ended up being a little too roomy around the toes and firm around the arch. I compared it with other shoes and the Merryl seems to be sized up a bit differently than other shoe brands. I can still wear it, but definitely it would be a better fit if the toe area wasn't more like 3E than 2E. Another part of the Moab2 design that strikes me as odd is how short the rear of the shoe is- they could have made it longer so the feet are more secure. Quote
