Leonardo DiCaprio Fascinated with the Biodiversity of Gunung Leuser National Park

Sunday (March 27th 2016), Leonardo DiCaprio, actor world famous as the character Jack Dawson in Titanic (1997) set foot in the Gunung Leuser National Park. During his visit, Leo and associates other actors, Adrien Brody (actor Jack Driscoll in the film KINGKONG) and Fisher Stevens and his crew to witness firsthand the biodiversity in Ketambe Research Station, Southeast Aceh Regency. Oscar at the 88th Academy Awards is lucky to have met with three Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) grown in a location not far from the research camp. Leo was very amazed by the beauty of the forest Gunung Leuser National Park in SP Ketambe and hear the sounds of hornbills and other bird species. For nearly two hours he spent to watch the behavior of the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii), wildlife 97% genetically similar to humans.

Great Hall TNGL supporting parties acting in good faith to help the conservation of Leuser. We also appreciate the environmental activists campaigning for the preservation of nature, including Leonardo DiCaprio and his colleagues ", said the Head of TNGL, Andi Basrul.

"The important thing anyone who walks into a conservation area stay abreast with administering licensing procedures according to regulations", he added.

Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor and environmental activist who aggressively campaigned climate change. Through the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, he actively supports conservation activities worldwide. In Indonesia, the Foundation helps conservation in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park and the forests of Aceh. Indonesia is an important for them because it has a very high biodiversity. No wonder the forest fires which spends about 2 million hectares of land last year to make it and the world gasped.

The arrival of Hugh Glass cast in the movie The Revenant was greeted enthusiastically by local residents. Leo and a helicopter carrying the team landed in SMA Negeri 1 Ketambe. Leo, who visited Indonesia to see the progress of the program in East Aceh earlier it had no plans to come to Aceh Tenggara, but he wants to see the research station's oldest Sumatran orangutan and the Sumatran Orangutan directly look at the habitat that is in the Gunung Leuser National Park

The same guy who took a pix yesterday of Leo in airport VIP lounge has posted another one

Below is an excerpt from a well known Oscar publicist who attended Leo's /Armani party the night before Oscars

According to her Leo was battling a cold that award winning weekend

Next stop was the Giorgio Armani cocktail party for Leo at the Rodeo Drive store. Invitations stipulated no press, no cameras, no questions and no selfies.

Leo, suffering from a cold, was ushered through the back door by large bodyguards and stood behind a pillar as he posed for the agreed-upon publicity shot with Roberta Armani.

I chatted up Leo’s mom Irmelin Indenbirken, only to find out she didn’t have a matching handbag for Oscar night so I sent the store manager scurrying for a complimentary purse. At one point diminutive Irmelin toyed with the idea of wearing a tuxedo to the Oscars until I convinced her that being photographed next to her tall handsome son in matching outfits was not the way to go.

“The Revenant” money men Arnon Milchan, Brad Weston and Brett Ratner, along with Leo’s best friend Tobey Maguire, Antonio Banderas, Fisher Stevens and Christoph Waltz managed to slip through the security to plant mafia-like kisses on Leo’s cheeks before he disappeared out the back door. Moments later, Cate Blanchett arrived through the front door and embraced a very pregnant Anne Hathaway.

As to Revenant box office,  l had read at IMDB that it would be released in Japan on April 22, ,  but  the articles that did mention Revenant box office this weekend only mentioned how it had done in China

In third place in the seven days ending Sunday was “The Revenant,” which continues to draw Leonardo DiCaprio fans to theaters. The film opened on the mainland on March 18, several weeks after DiCaprio took home Oscar gold, and has now cleared $51 million in China, a surprisingly strong showing.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO GIVES $1 MILLION TO AFRICAN NATION

Quote

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $1 million to the African Nation of Seychelles through his well-established initiative, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean off East Africa that is known for its stunning beauty and for being home to several rare wildlife species. The million dollars being donated is part of the first-ever “debt for oceans conservation swap,” which restructures the country’s debt in exchange for their protection of more 400,000 square kilometres of ocean over the next 5 years. The total debt owed is $21.4 million dollars, which the Nature Conservancy is providing through a low interest loan. DiCaprio and several other foundations have stepped up to provide financial support, an act of generosity that is being largely credited to the actor’s interest in getting this project off the ground.

DiCaprio had this to say in a press release:

We champion projects like this one across the globe that use cutting edge methods in conservation and environmental protection. This deal will enhance food security for the local people of Seychelles, help mitigate the effects of climate change on their low lying island home, and protect the surrounding rich ocean ecosystems for future generations.

Given how much influence they seem to have over us, it’s always wonderful to see celebrity figures step up in support of the causes they are most passionate about. What I particularly appreciate about Leonardo’s efforts is that he supports his words with impactful action.

Since being founded in 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has been involved in a number of change-making projects through funding, awareness, and public disclosure. Most notably, DiCaprio produced and narrated the documentary The 11th Hour, which both looked at the state of the global environment and explored ways to make things better.

The hope for the Seychelles agreement is that it can serve as an example for other, similar initiatives designed to protect the world’s vast and beautiful oceans from fishing and resource extraction.

This marks the second time this year that Leonardo DiCaprio caught our attention, the first being in February when he used his Oscar acceptance speech to speak for the First Nations and Indigenous people of this world.
