February 17, 200916 yr I heard that one of the reasons why he signed a new contract though was so that he could have a relegation release clause (£6 million) written into his contract. He is a little mercurial but on his day he's superb. Sbragia did well hanging on to him. I bet you're happy that it didn't do through and you weren't lumbered with Darren Bent! Chimbonda has got a mixed reception really. Lots of fans think that he has a poor temperament - remember the Carling Cup final - but I think that a slim majority of fans are happy to have him back as he's pretty handy and he's versatile, which is important as our defence are so injury prone. Personally, I'm quite glad that he's back. I was really quite surprised that he thinks really didn't work at Sunderland and that lots of the fans didn't like him. Malbranque's done well though! I'm happy for him. How's Tainio doing? I think that's true about the contract, although there were a few conflicting stories about whether he already had the clause from the beginning or whether it's just been added. Personally, I don't really have too much of a problem with it - I tend to think getting relegated means it's virtually impossible to hang on to your best players anyway and even harder to command much more than £6-7 million for them. Tainio's been impressive, but only really in short bursts so far. He's had an unlucky run of injuries since joining so unfortunately he hasn't had a decent chance to establish himself in the side as yet. He seems a useful player though - he reads the game well, protects the back four (again, something we were really crying out for last season) and always looks calm on the ball. If he could just get a few more games under his belt, I think he'd become a popular figure around here. Is Bent really as bad as all that? I thought Harry was joking when he said he rated his wife as a better striker Good point. Tainio's really passionate. You could see that he loved Spurs - who he supported as a boy - and it was really sad that we sold him; I heard that he didn't want to leave. He certainly did a job for us. Glad that he's playing well up with you Mackems. Shame about the injuries though. I spent a long time after we signed Bent telling people to give him a chance, and thinking that he was a good chap and that he would come good. I just don't feel that he fits in at Spurs, on the pitch or in the dressing room , and that he isn't consistent enough. (Apparently he's the top English goalscorer this season though ) Some of his misses. :|
February 18, 200916 yr This thread has seen better days, my last two posts were about Phil Bardsley for Christ's sake. Only one solution: Avram Grant gallery~~~!1!
February 18, 200916 yr Can someone tell me why the United - Fulham match is being played so late? Sky sports are showing it at 10pm, is it not live coverage?
February 18, 200916 yr My picks were based on what I call the three sides of Avram: the joker that the cameras rarely show, the brooding philosopher and the passionate man's man. Having seen some of the quirky hijinx his wife gets up to on Israeli TV, I'd say Avram was probably much more of a wild man away from public! In fact you might say we should all grant him a little more respect!
February 23, 200916 yr Hallelujah! Spurs finally win an away match. But boy did they make hard work of it. Chin, chin, old boy; the Telegraph say that Gerrard's back training and should be in at least the squad for your midweek Champions' League match. All's not yet lost.
February 24, 200916 yr Darren Fletcher's house was broken into and his family threatened. Apparently he gets paid £50,000 per week.
February 24, 200916 yr I think most of us can handle the likes of Messi or Henry being on astronomical wages but £50k per week is a lot of money for someone who, with all due respect, nobody's really going to buy a ticket to see. Nothing against Fletcher as he's quite an effective player, but wow!
