That was Ming, not Sui. Maybe Sui has said that as well though (?) Not hot at all. VS isn't a brand who wants to be provocative like that. Maroon 5 is still relevant enough to do VS but I don't think they make music that fits the runway. The show of that year was definitely a huge let-down. The collection was rather weak. Charlotte Stockdale didn't seem to have great ideas anymore and was replaced by Sophia the very next year. Not that restrictive like you make it sound like. The Angel-contract till circa 2009 is what you call restrictive! You can tell by the rare non-VS work the Angels of that time did and also how much VS paid them. The sadie/sara-situation can be summed up as that VS only became aware of Sadie's existence through Sara. They liked her look and subsequently booked her. Period.

They did a bridal segment before but that was waaaay back in 1996. All the Russians didn't make it this year but the other girls who didn't get a visa last year (Mayowa and allegedly Gigi) were cast this year.

What I find so irritating about VS keep hiring the same 3-4 Chinese models as if there are not more Asian models with legit careers to choose from is the fact that John Pfeiffer is the VS casting director. Heck, he's Asian himself. How can he not be more aware of Asian models? There are Asian models like Ling Liu, Yue Han, Chen Siqi, Melissa Anderson (half Asian), Angela Ruiz (she must have some Asian in her heritage) or heck even Fei Fei Sun who fit VS better than the Asian models who actually went to the casting like Fernanda Ly or Chuyan He. If it wasn't for that terrible haircut, I think I-Hua could have made it at least to the callbacks. and after seeing how someone as stellar as Tako didn't even make it to the callbacks, I think a lot of amazing models get robbed from the opportunity to meet the VS key people because of John. 😤

One thing that made VS so prestigious was also because they knew exactly who's hot in the moment and who's not anymore. Just look at the cast of the 2001, 2003 and 2005 show. Every show has an almost different line-up. Even between the 2003 and the 2005 show whereas if you looked at the cast of the 2016 and 2018 show it's almost the same. Yawn. I'm wondering if the fading importance of the VS show has made the show somewhat of a red flag for the big models of the moment. So many of them who would fit doing VS didn't even go to the castings.

Kendall never took someone's spot as she wasn't the last model to be confirmed. There were several models who were confirmed after she was. Get your facts straight. s m h I guess VS has been desperately looking for a typical blonde American bombshell with a legit modeling career to become their spokesmodel for years but since there's no such model, they have been snatching every blonde American model who comes close to that idea. That's how Marisa Miller, Erin Heatherton, Lindsay Ellingson and now Maggie as a PINK spokesmodel became contracted models. I don't think one of them would have gotten so far if they were not Americans.

I don't like it when models with no big careers or not even a solid career get the show. I thought VS was supposed to be the show of the big models. The newcomers that are confirmed so far have no legit modeling careers except for Winnie but she's too SJW-pleasing for me. Man, where is this show going? Feels like the VS team are eager to ruin the show. Odd.

when were models powerhouses (except in the early 90's and for Gisele) to begin with? I think what is referred to are the big models of the moment and there are big models of the moment in 2018 who have had sucess for more than just a season or two and would fit doing VS at the same time like Amilna, Anna Ewers, Andreea, Birgit Kos, Cara Taylor, Charlee Fraser, Farretta, Giedre, Grace Elizabeth, Imaan, Kris Grikaite, Luna Bijl, RIanne van Rompaey, Tami Williams, Taylor Hill, Vittoria Ceretti. They are like the it-girls from the 2005 era like Morgane, Bianca, Doutzen, Caroline Winberg, Caroline Trentini, Natasha Poly, Inguna, Julia Stegner etc. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - -- - - -- - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- About the "debate" that started here after Aube's post and people wonder why social media-models don't qualify equally as hf models is that VS hires fashion models, not glamour models and social media models are pretty much today's glamour models. So I understand when models like Aube feel upset that social media models are doing the casting because they don't have a legit modeling career in fashion modeling but yet get invited to go to the casting for the biggest runway job in fashion modeling. PS: By social media models I don't mean fashion models who are popular in social media but the ones who gained success through "social media modeling". On another note, I'M VERY SHOCKED that Tako didn't even pass the pre-casting process. She stood out so much from the other models who went to the casting but then again who knows how she actually performed inside the casting room. I also thought that I-Hua could be VS material but she messed it up for herself with that hideous hair cut. I knew she wouldn't make it after seeing her with that hair cut.

I really, really hope that VS is not succumbing to the SJW epidemic that the US has been plagued by for a while by letting someone like Sofia Jamora walk the show who has no fashion model credibility whatsoever but would be good for "diversity". As a trangender model, Valentina Sampaio would fall under that category as well, but unlike Sofia she has a legit modeling career and is actually very pretty. Depending on the angle and lighting she even looks similar to Doutzen! 😳

So many models attended the castings and only one model really impressed me - Tako Natsvlishvili I mean look at those legs. I don't understand why VS invited so many unknown girls to the casting. Isn't the show only for the big models of the moment to underline the prestige of the show?? I see the problem that the big girls in the modeling industry have become less and less commercially appealing as the big girls from 10-15 years ago but there are still enough to have a strong cast. There aren't enough amazing models to fill 60 spots though. And I still don't understand why VS holds their castings so early this year. They used to have the castings after fashion week is done which also gave them the chance to cast the break out stars from the most recent season.

Urgh, if I had to sum up how I feel about this year's SI swimuit cast in one term it would be political correctness and I CAN'T STAND political correctness. First a bunch of plus-size models, now a woman with one leg? Where is this going to end? Feminists that don't shave? I still stand behind my opinion that a big chunk of fashion advertisement is selling (just like with any other kind of advertisement) a fantasy. A fantasy that you should only look at as something beautiful and not "oh, I'm pressured to look like this". This whole "everyone is beautiful"-crap has no helpful message than just selling a lie and succumbing to the need of the average woman to feel as desirable as a pretty bombshell that all the SI models used to be. Out of the 26 models of this year's issue, not even half of them are legit models but insta models, nepotists and other amateur models. Now it feels like everyone can be in the pages of SI swimsuit (except for Asians of course... in case anyone noticed) which also disparages the "prestige" of it. No offense to the average woman, but just know your place. Jeez.

Thank you. I just watched the show till Celine showed up on the runway, so I'm surprised that she led the finale. I thought it was still a thing to lead the finale or does Olivier favor her? Getting the Balmain ad for this collection, would be awesome for her career.

Did you watch the same video as i did because Celine wasn't even given camera time. Maybe two seconds... that's not enough to call it "walked very well". And happy to see her (finally) doing a big show.

I instantly thought she's winner material, when she was first shown on GNTM. Celine got the looks of a top model. Too bad that being exceptionally beautiful is ironically not in demand in the fashion industry. Especially in recent years, the big shows have been flooded with bland looking models. It's a shame that a profession about looks is oblivious to standouts like Celine. She looks stunning on the runway. Too bad that her beauty is restricted to doing Berlin fashion week. I'm afraid she will stuck at remaining an underrated model.

Ratings for this year's show hit a new low for VS. Probably they're gonna blame it on people not watching tv anymore instead of looking for the problem in the choices they make. I'm wondering what it will have to take for them to realize the show needs fresh air. VS was more exclusive back then just by the fact that only 20+ models got to do the show while the show this year had 55 models (it would have been even 60+ if it wasn't for the visa debacle). I think you also believe the show back then featured more iconic models because some girls like Ale, Adriana and KK turned out to be iconic models but they weren't iconic back then. It's something that comes with time. Some models of this year's show might become iconic later on and then you will look back at this year's show and recognize more faces.

I think social media is responsible for Jo becoming an Angel. I remember when the NA were revealed, there were so many comments about why Jo wasn't made an Angel and then soon after she became an Angel. So VS is probably focusing so much on Jo, being under the impression they're doing an amaaaazing job because they give the fans what they want but in actuality, Jo is annoying a lot of people by now. VS is late to the game... again.

Someone of fb wrote something like "give me the budget and I'll make a better show" and it made me realize that a big chunk of the show budget should be cut. A generous budget makes you spend on unnecessary things and I see that with their need to put swarovski crystals on just about anything for example but you're on a budget, you have to get creative and focus on the nitty-gritty, and that's what I see missing more and more with each show.
