  1. Good Movies That Aren't Popular But Are Must-Sees

    Started by SympathysSilhouette,

The idea of this thread is not promoting big, recent releases, but either smaller, independent movies that fewer people might have heard of yet, or older classics that might not get that much attention any more. My list, for now: Paths of Glory (1957) One of the most powerfull war movies I have ever seen, and yet, a lot of people seem oblivious to it. It really grips you and shows you the absurdity of war in all it's ugliness. It's even more remarkable, if you consider the herioc tone most, if not all of it's contemporary war movies had. Stalag 17 (1953) The ultimate POW camp movie, imho. I prefer it to the Great Escape even. It's probably closer in tone to Hart's War. …

A place where fans of Westerns can kick back and talk about their favorites western movies and/or actors. The Western is a genre seen in film, television, radio, literature, painting and other visual arts. Westerns are devoted to telling stories set primarily in the later half of the 19th century in what became the Western United States (known as the American Old West or Wild West), but also in Western Canada, Mexico (The Wild Bunch, Vera Cruz), Alaska (The Far Country, North to Alaska) and even Australia (Quigley Down Under, The Proposition). So this is a thing that I have been paying attention to for a while; Do you ever just hear a song on the radio that just fits (a part of a movie) perfectly? There don't even have to be lyrics in it, just the song/rhythm itself would make a perfect soundtrack.

Now, I'm going to honest with everyone. Thor was pretty bad. The story was weak and it didn't seem like a complete thought. The concept of plausible character development was shat on. Shoe-horned romance. The action was crap... Fighting? Awful and over-choreographed. Special effects were below par (except for the visual concept of Asgaard, which is stunning and I enjoyed more than that of Pandora in Avatar). What did I like? It was funny. Funnier than expected. Natalie Portman, who I normally can't stand, was surprisingly likable and beautiful in the role. Chris Hemsworth (more on him later) was surprisingly talented; great acting chops. Everyone was varying degrees of gr…

It has Matrix spoof elements (especially the fight scenes) and even Spiderman spoof elements in it. It also has a little bit of philosopy. It's now one of the most successfull foreign film. The most successfull Hong Kong flick, so far. A sequel is in the making.

So, so many these past few years... So how long with this trend last? Are we at a peak or is there room to go? It looks like it got wings after the success of the X-men and Nolan Batman series in the late 2000s. That was the catalyst.
