July 25, 201410 yr I'm sorry but I think certain facial features make certain women look like Playmates and there's no make up, lighting or styling that can fix that. If there's an objective standard you ought to be able to articulate what precisely makes a face "cheap looking," without reference to makeup, hair, lighting, or the respectability of the brand, then. It seems odd to me that people could describe someone's face as inherently vulgar or cheap and not see how problematic that is. Eh, whatever, just another reason I don't post here much I guess.
July 25, 201410 yr It's not that the woman looks inherently cheap, the makeup and lighting obviously do factor into it. It's also something in the way a woman carries herself, and in the way she holds her face/expression. There's a way to pose for a woman's magazine, a men's magazine and an "adult" magazine, and some girls skip the the first and lean more towards the latter two. There's nothing wrong with that, there's artistic merit in all three, but I think that's what people are trying to touch base on.She's a pretty enough girl, not my cup of tea, but definitely not ugly by any stretch, however I don't necessarily think she would sell very well to women. And SI is trying to target a female audience as well as the men. I´ve always thought that SI was about body, not the face. Afterall, they´re promoting swimsuit, aren´ they? I doubt any straight guy would buy SI mag, look at Charlotte and say: "Oh my, she´s too Playboy looking!" Most of you women are cursing SI because of using more HF models than commercial ones. And suddenly, Charlotte is "too Playboy". I don´t personally like her look at all - but I can see that she´s got a damn HOT body and would definitely fit in the mag. But at least we have something better to talk about than Frisco, afterall.Yes they are promoting swimwear, however in recent years there's been a very obvious trend showcasing a growing female audience who is buying the magazine. So, while they still want to show case the female body, they have to some extent been moving away from models who would be better of gracing the pages of just men's magazine's, (FHM, GQ, and some of the racier sets) and trying for a more neutral approach. It's been obvious that they've been looking at all of this from a marketing perspective, cheaper swimwear interspersed amongst the magazine, a section specifically for Target, a notorious "middle class" seller. It's not just about tits and ass anymore, it's also about the curb appeal so to speak. So while Charlotte has a knockout body, her face definitely leaves something to be desired. It's not a 'post it' per say, but there is a very good chance that it would turn off their growing female audience. Emilly R was close to that with some of her images last year, they did something to her face with the makeup and she looked more porn star then model, which shouldn't have been the case, because she can photograph beautifully.I think at this point, they're trying to find a balance between men and women's taste, finding a group of girls who appeals to both sides of the American public. Hence the swing to high fashion models, (who are generally acceptable to women) interposed with busty blondes with relatively cute faces, who have for years been the go to for men around America.
July 25, 201410 yr /!\ SI Swimsuit 2015 Casting Call: Ashley Graham >> http://www.si.com/swim-daily/2014/07/25/si-swimsuit-2015-casting-call-ashley-graham
July 25, 201410 yr Then you'd appreciate this: I don't quite get the Playboy reference either. Charlotte looks pretty amazing to me, blows Kate Upton out of the water IMO... Something that made me laugh as I was looking through my 'current' folder. I like both girls (Candice a lot more), but still:

July 26, 201410 yr I agree with pheno that SI is trying to target more females and therefore has to find a balance between the sexbombs and the HF models. However, for me, I think they are skewing too close to too many HF models, or even just too many non-HF who still don't bring the goods (ie, body). Re: Charlotte, pretty much everyone was saying the same about Upton's face when she first showed up, in fact I'm pretty sure the term "porn star" got thrown around for some reason (btw I think it's a ridiculous criticism but let's not forget that we know from her personal photos that Kate didn't exactly employ the most um, non-Playboyish of poses and expressions back then), and I don't think there's anything inherently cheap-looking about her face in shots like this or . I think about 95% of it is styling and photography. My issue with Charlotte is I think we have enough Aryan pinups/blonde bombshells in SI already... there are thousands, probably millions, of women who have amazing bodies and pretty enough faces but could add some variation. Could we get some pale brunettes, or some redheads or something? Where are the Cintia Dickers of yesteryear?? Or even more radical.. what about a model with a really nice ass? Like, a really really nice one? That'd be a wild departure, lol. P.S. Playboy really has been getting their act together in the past 5 years or so... would not mind seeing an Alyssa Arce type in SISE, even if it's just to see people implode and go crazy talking about how "cheap" and "vulgar" it all is.
July 26, 201410 yr Candice is always arching her back because she likes to pretend she has an ass. I HATE when models do this, and a huge majority of them do. I get that it creates an illusion of an ass from the side profile (for the uninitiated) but it makes their butts look terrible and long and weird from behind. Just stand like a normal human ffs.
July 26, 201410 yr I mean American Playboy (Y) (Y)hot chicks not the fancy fashionista Playboy's from France (N) (N)boring skinny chicks
July 26, 201410 yr Location: Nevada (outside of Vegas) Model: Hannah F Liked by half the SI staff including photographers, hair stylists, and a couple of SI models. If this is tied into SISwim2015 and not some other project that the Si staff are working on, then welcome to the Road Trip.

July 26, 201410 yr I noticed the exact same pose, but what made me laugh was the difference in bust size :-D I HATE when models do this, and a huge majority of them do. I get that it creates an illusion of an ass from the side profile (for the uninitiated) but it makes their butts look terrible and long and weird from behind. Just stand like a normal human ffs. This was the lineup last year: http://swimsuit.si.com/swimsuit/ SI doesn't use many HF runway models, HF top models, supermodels, or higher profile editorial models. This magazine no longer features a lot of supermodels like Elle Macpearson and Eva H or a lot of top models like AnaBB, Isabeli, Angela Lindvall, etc. like it once did. Established top models such as Anne V and Hilary Rhoda (who left years ago) come to mind as exceptions- the great half in each issue are relatively unknown or are sourced from commercial models. In fact for many, their appearance in this magazine will probably be the highlight of their time as a model. I find that the models they used last year are overall shorter and more girl next door ish than those they used in prior years. However, for me, I think they are skewing too close to too many HF models, or even just too many non-HF who still don't bring the goods (ie, body). As far as cliche' Anglo- American mega super blondes go, my favorite these past few years has been Tori Praver. I remember seeing her on billboards and on storefronts (GUESS) and wondering who she was I personally find it quintessential for the magazine to have at least one.
