The Official Academy Awards Thread

I really liked Seth McFarlene as a host, I enjoyed the show better than other years' broadcast. I think Waltz acting in Django was not strong to win the Oscar, I also need to see Zero Dark Thirty to see if Jessica got robbed, Jennifer's acting in SLP was great buy I have to compare first before making any prompt assumptions. Anne's speaches this award season got really tiresome. Daniel was going to win of course, and Argo, best movie? I wanted Life fo Pi to win this one! At least it got 4 important Oscars! But well, congrats Ben!

disgusted sugar man won the price. 5 cameras broken is so much better but unfotunately less "clean" and entertaining. in same time, opposite to Malik Bendjelloul, Emad Burnat is not a film director but a farmer who made a movie about his life and persecutions they live in palestine. his camera has even saved his life from a gunshot.

and of course Amour won the best foreigner film. this movie is actually everywhere since weeks and never heard about the other ones.

Seemed very odd to me that ‘Argo’ took best picture, yet Ben Affleck was overlooked for a director’s nomination. Still, it means for the second year in a row that the big winner has featured John Goodman. Coincidence? I think not.

‘Lincoln’ really surprised me though, I expected a three-hour epic job with rousing speeches and lots of slow motion, but it’s actually quite a modest film and all the better for it. Daniel Day-Lewis nailed it, his performance was just the right mix of historical figure and real human being. You hear about actors 'disappearing into their roles' a lot, but rarely do you genuinely see it.

No complaints about Jennifer Lawrence’s win either. She was an engaging presence in an otherwise rather silly film.

Can we talk about Seth MacFarlene...I hate all the hate he is getting. All the reviews said his jokes were sexist, offensive and racist and pushed the boundaries too far etc. etc.

All true, but anyone with a cursory knowledge of his act could have told the Academy what he'd bring to the table.

It's funny you say that, because he literally did. He even talked to other cast-members through letters written with ink and stayed in character through breaks. Yet again an award well deserved for DDL :PinkCouture2:

Also - there's already talk of Tom Hanks getting even with Daniel's Oscar strike next year. Can't wait to see the battle of those two giants.

Playing the ‘Jaws’ theme to shift those giving unnecessarily long-winded speeches from the stage is probably the most entertaining thing the Academy has ever done.

Apart from that, it was pretty predictable and overall, a bit of a snooze-fest.

lol the jaws thing was just terrible :p:rofl:

Kinda surprised Waltz won fro Django...I mean it was an awesome performance, and I love him as an actor! But I thought it was the same character in Inglorious Bastards, which he won an oscar for.

About Best picture, I am curious. Is there anybody who's seen all/almost all the Best Picture nominees? The only one I saw out of the bunch was Django :p But I've been meaning to rent Argo, and Beasts of The Southern Wild. Those two I was most excited to see to before the Oscars, and Argo winning makes me want to see it even more! Also really wanted to see Silver Linings Playbook!

Just saw Zero Dark Thirty and I gotta say between Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence, the latter deserved the Oscar, since they were the favorites, Naomi Watts gave a really outstanding performance though and I would love to have seen her win.

I also want to see Argo, and Lincoln. I have no desire to see Silver Linings or Zero Dark thirty. I have seen Les Mis(was a good movie) and Beasts of the Southern Wild(one of the worst movies I have ever seen)

I just saw Argo, and It was definitely worth checking out ;) I haven't seen too many other of the BP nominees to judge, but just by seeing the movie, I can see why Argo won Best picture. I thought it was amazing!

Beasts of the Southern Wild was bad???! I thought it looked really good! What didn't you like about it?

Very strong field for best picture at the Oscars this year, so much so that last year's big winner (‘Argo’) would have struggled to make it onto the list of nominations. For me, even a rank outsider like 'Her' was a better movie, as was 'Inside Llewyn Davis', which unbelievably, wasn't a part of the conversation.

I HIGHLY recommend 'The Master' although that was last year.

Out of these, I was interested in 'Gravity' but I can't stand 2 hours of Sandra Bullock..;)

Definitely not American Hustle. I really am hearing 12 Years A Slave is worth it

Gravity is a really good movie and it isn't 2 hours, only an hour and a half. More movies should be 90 minutes like Gravity is, just a perfect time. Doesn't feel too short or too long. The trailers never really sold the movie to me, or my boyfriend, but we decided to see it one night in order to escape annoying visitors - it was well worth going! If someone told you the movie was filmed in space you could probably believe them, it was visually stunning, and the 3D was quite scary at times.

It's still in cinemas in Australia, but if you don't want to see it in the cinema, then I suggest it's worth checking out on dvd. It's more than just a lost in space movie.

And yeah, my boyfriend doesn't like Sandra either but even he came away from this movie saying she was fantastic.
