Many (many) of the accounts about either one of them seems to be obsessed by this story. They may be a fair share of humans behind them, but I don't believe so many people can be so obsessive about one thing. Quote

Cult Icon Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 There's a liberal and hawkish side to the Russian conduct of the war in Ukraine. The 'liberal establishment' side is Putin-Peskov-Gerisimov-Shoigu. They want to fight the war in Ukraine with minimal costs and minimal manpower, spend most of the funding for years reforming & expanding the army. The war will continue over a long period of time (years) until Ukraine-NATO surrenders to a Pro-Russian peace deal. IF they do not surrender, they will finish it off with a decisive second invasion after they are ready with the rebuilding process. The war would be managed with the economic and political side far outweighing the military side. This is why the economic side of the war has been much better managed than the military. The two sides inherently conflict with each other. Putin wants the war to be Russia's side war, kind of like a war that the average people do not pay too much attention to and don't see as an existential threat. The 'hawks' are people like Prizoghin, and Medvedev (ex president and deputy head of the security council). These are people who find the half-asleep military conduct of the war unacceptable. Some want a second mobilization so Russia has numerical parity or even superiority over Ukraine. The implication is that they want a bigger and more offensively based war. This economic and political pressure is not what Putin & Shoigu wants. As the war is dragging on, the hawks are gaining more traction in Russia. Quote

What was big news before the incident (besides the consolidation of the mercenaries) was the increased size of the Russian army by 166,000 men. 40+ separate volunteer units, 5 new regiments, 1 new army, and 1 new corps. The new 40th Army corps and the 25th Combined Armes army is now operational. Besides this Wagner PMC was refitting was slated to finish by August 2023. Quote

It is not clear how many aircraft was shot down. More Russian aircraft was lost against Wagner in 1 day than in 1 month against Ukraine lol. "Wagner forces may have shot down up to three Mi-8 MTPR electronic warfare helicopters, one Mi-8 helicopter, one Ka-52 helicopter, one Mi-35 helicopter, one Mi-28 helicopter, and one An-26/Il-28 transport aircraft, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 pilots and airmen - and one of the single deadliest days for the Russian air force of the war in Ukraine to date.[11]" Quote
Cult Icon Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Over the past few days it's looking more and more like Prizoghin overplayed his hand and lost his mind. Basically his business empire and Wagner PMC are getting taken apart for the mutiny. He is getting denounced by major power brokers in Russia. He is getting investigated for corruption as well. Literally he has gone from Russian hero to a traitor in a day. Shoigu and Gerasimov are not fired either. There was fake news that Surovikin was arrested but that didn't happen either. If Prizoghin went mad I think it's because of the battle of Bakmut-Soledar and how much time he spent there on the front lines, and the overall anger the PMCs have against the Russian army for making them do most of the serious fighting. There's also a lot of evidence that this could be a pro-Russian army GRU operation to disaggregate Wagner and reorganize the force. A few days Prior Putin confidently speaks at numerous conferences saying that Russian will launch a counteroffensive after they defeat the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Besides the new reserve army becoming operational, Shoigu did a horse & pony show at arms depots where they claim that they released 4,000 towed and self-propelled artillery pieces with 700 going to the Ukraine war. The chief of the Russian National Guard announced that some of their forces will be reorganized and receive tanks and artillery. At the same time a portion of Wagner transfers to Belarus, the Belarus dictator received Nuclear weapons. So convenient and bizarre to have all these critical military events happening at the same time. Now the military politics is about what to do with Wagner and how to transfer its assets while they destroy the person of Prigozhin. Overall if the Russians fail to break up Wagner effectively this is a net positive for Ukraine, as Wagner PMC was a nightmare for them. Quote
