He only said that he didn't really consider the race/gender of anyone when deciding who to vote for in the Oscars. This was translated as him somehow saying that POC and women could not write anything good. Which was obviously not what he meant. Yes of course it was because people are stupid and can't read, it's about the quality of the art first and foremost which is the way it should be. Then he caved and said the typical BS jargon. Quote

When a famous person sees that there is a small doubt about their "political integrity", they usually cave because they're afraid of twitter mobs and the thought police in the media. That's bad advertisement and they think it's bad for business. Self-censorship is the goal of all totalitarian ideologies Quote

It's an infernal spiral: they lose money because of the internet, then they get budget cuts, which then means the articles are less investigative and less serious.... Then, they lose more money because people don't read them anymore... and here goes, again and again. Some think that becoming politically correct is the only way to save their business, but they're wrong. Doing your job is usually the best way to save your business. Quote

Now, they only care about it because they want to wage cultural wars Quote

Money is one thing (and even rich people care about it - though you're right, it's not the case all of the time), but there's also the reputation. The media and twitter mobs are good at destroying people's reputations. What's your take? How do you explain his backing out? Quote

Cult Icon Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Karma is a weird thing to see. For the longest time it seems that it doesn't have any effect at all. Certainly, at the time of the injustices I thought they were simply getting away with routine bad behavior. However when taken to its logical conclusion it is unsustainable. 5, 10+ years later it starts reaping its awards.. Quote

Unfortunately, some people take full advantage (whether it's money, fame or moral "superiority") of this politicization and a lot of these people are in the mainstream media or in Hollywood. So, it's not gonna end soon. Only a game changer can make them stop being moral bullies. Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle and others are steps towards change, but small ones for now. Quote
Enrico_sw Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 ^ Dividing the audience with politicization is a dumb move for big studios. Unfortunately, they're too dumb, risk adverse and sheep-like to really understand that. Quote
Enrico_sw Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 If they had used the budget of TROS for the Expanse, they could've made 5 more seasons. They money would've been much better spent! Quote
