I've bought my last two cells unlocked because I hated being locked into a cell contract. :ninja: (Let's not talk about how angry it makes me that AB has higher cell rates over the other provinces.)   I'm glad this law is going into effect though, though it's unfortunate for people who might have old locked devices and have already moved to a different carrier.

Yea, even working for one of the big three I've always leaned towards the Nexus/Pixel phones, factory unlocked and no worries if you travel or anything.

 

Cell service in Canada is such a scam  :/ Probably wouldn't even have a phone if I didn't have the discount would just be my work phone

I actually went an checked out Freedom Mobile today. Wouldn't work well for you since you travel a bit, but I can literally get double the data, with more features for less than I'm paying now with Rogers. Put myself on a reserve list for the iPhone X since it was on a deal.
