For example someone with 8 looks and 5 talent vs. 7 looks and 8 talent. "a bit of everything" makes me not sure whereas looks only would make me vote for the 8 looks.

You can multiply the looks score by 4 and add the talent just once, you'll have 80%-20% then, I don't know, it's up to you.
