December 7, 20177 yr Roman J. Israel, Esq. - Denzel was good. Unfortunately, the movie was just okay.
December 8, 20177 yr Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Great cast and performances but if you aren't depressed when you go in, you sure will be when you come out.
December 10, 20177 yr Personal Shopper (2017) A terrific surprise of a film. Had no expectations going in and really knew nothing about it, but this turned out to be a brilliantly effective ghost story that has you questioning what is going on in front of you while also not resorting to the tired and cliched aspects of the horror genre that have caused the genre to generally become stale these days. Kristen Stewart is excellent as Maureen, the film's protagonist, who finds herself trying to make contact with her deceased brother after the two had made a pact that the first of the two of them to die (they both had the same genetic heart defect) would reach out from beyond the grave and attempt to make contact with the other. This is Kristen Stewart actually doing some acting, not moping her way through another Twilight film, and while she's turned in some quality performances at other times in her career, this should be the film that causes people to take notice of her talent and give her the due that has eluded her to this point in her career. The fear, sadness, paranoia, and the wide assortment of other emotions that Maureen goes through as she navigates her day job as a personal shopper for a fairly successful model as well as the potentially supernatural goings-on that happen and are caused by her as she tries to seek out the spirit of her deceased brother.
December 10, 20177 yr Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Movies are not always good years or decades later. Amazingly, this movie is still good 40 years after it was released.

December 10, 20177 yr ^^ I'm not going to argue with that. Based on those two movies, I think we can agree that Steven Spielberg is okay at making movies.
December 17, 20177 yr Memento (2000) excellent and unique thriller. pretty dark and depressing tho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-j07BRzq1g

December 22, 20177 yr Just now, Michael* said: Probably my favourite film of the year. It's certainly up there for me as well. Still trying to catch up on a lot of the films that I haven't seen this year, but Personal Shopper was terrific and will certainly be a top 10 film for 2017 at the end of the day.
December 27, 20177 yr The Zookeeper's Wife - I am usually slow to see these types of movies because they show some of the worst of humanity, but I tend to talk myself into seeing them because they also show some of the best of humanity.
January 11, 20187 yr Flatliners (2017) insipid and vapid, without the creativity and the original characters of the movie from 1990. bonus sjw-ism: the poor latino guy is the smartest and the one without guilt.
