so the epl is the league were mls players go to retire?

  • 2 weeks later...

Since I don't have much else to complain about after the win against Swansea and since it's pretty quiet around these parts at the moment, may I present my 'If I hear this one more time from a member of the media I'll scream' top five...

5. Howard Webb, the Premier League's top official - I seriously doubt he's even the best referee in Rotheram.

4. Alan Shearer's liberal use of grammar - "I think he done well", "this is the pass what we were talking about" etc etc.

3. "Steve Bruce was unlucky to lose his job and deserved more time" by anyone who just so happens to be mates with Steve Bruce - messrs O'Neill and Bruce are almost universally popular with the media, with only one key difference - ask anyone what they think of Brucey, they'll tell you he's a great lad, a top bloke, etc. Ask them what they think of Martin and they'll tell you he's good at his job. Yet for some reason the 'experts' can't seem to differentiate while giving it the old "the fans got him the sack" waffle.

2. Condemnation of Roberto Mancini's waving of imaginary cards - okay, so this isn't exactly in the spirit of fair play, but are we really meant to believe that there's a manager in the land who sits back and takes it when he feels his team are being unfairly treated? Mancini does it with physical gestures as opposed to screaming barely coherent tirades of abuse within spitting distance of officials. Given the choice, I know which one I'd prefer to be on the receiving end of.

1. "If only Arsenal had someone like Tony Adams at the back" by anyone with a passing connection to Arsenal - note to younger readers: a long time ago, before the vast majority of their current playing squad were born, Arsenal had a pretty good defence.

Welcome Frankie from The Saturdays Wayne Bridge!

May also need to learn how to spell 'Sotirios Kyrgiakos' instead of just copying and pasting it, as I did there.

'Tough night for Harry Redknapp. Does he focus on the transfer window or complete his tax return? Both end tonight. Decisions, decisions...'

A lot of us just called him 'The Greek'

How sad it is that overcoming a 0-2 deficit at home to QPR represents one of the highlights of Villa's season.

It really isn't transfer deadline day unless 'Arry conducts an interview from his car window. :ninja:

How did he get on at Anfield? My only real memory of his time there is an all-out war with Fellaini in a Merseyside derby game.

I caught the highlights of the game and it looks as if Ireland and Nzogbia are starting to get their respective acts together. Cause for optimism?

Ireland's looking a lot better though that's as much a testament to how poor he was before. He still occasionally looks really lacking in confidence, particularly with the goal at his mercy but yes, the past month has been a definite step in the right direction. As for Charles, I suppose we knew we were buying an enigma and that's what he's proving to be. I don't know what to make of him yet and I don't think McLeish does either.

When Nzogbia was on top form for Wigan towards the end of last season, I was practically drooling over the possibility of him joining us. It's been a slow start for him this year but I still think he'll come good for Villa - though the feeling that he might be slightly better as a big fish in a small pond refuses to shift altogether.

And on a slightly different note, I hold Tony Pulis in even greater contempt now than I did before our game against Stoke on Saturday. His transparent attempt to draw media attention away from his team's powder-puff attack by sparking debate about play-acting only served to make him look desperately stupid.

He got subbed for Heskey on Sunday, which was a shade unfair given that he set up our goal. True, I didn't think he was playing particularly well but ultimately, who offers you more of a goal scoring threat: N'Zogbia or Heskey? But anyway, we've scored fifteen in the past eight games, our real problem is we have an unbelievably bad defence.

Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed.

Capello quit after a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley.

An FA statement read: "The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager."

On Monday, the Italian publicly challenged the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

The FA's statement continued: "The discussions focused on the FA Board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview.

"In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect."
