It's a harsh judgement. Sure, he's not a nobel laureate, but he's a good interviewer and at least he's humble. He's far better than people in channels like CNN. The negative views on Rogan come from activists because Rogan talked about a man that became a woman and fought against women in MMA fights... Rogan said it's unfair and activists are just mad about that. Because activists don't understand biology. They are the obscurantists and the mainstream media back them up. Who do you mean? If you talk about Alex Jones, I agree, that guy is a nutjob. But that's the only one I know of, just one bad apple. Most of other ones are recognized experts. Sure, they have biases, but everybody does. Some of them (not all of them) are not in the "mainstream ideologies", but is that a good thing. Having discordant opinions helps to create a healthy debate (and that's good whether they are right or wrong). Diversity of thought is important. People in the mainstream media have forgotten that. That's why they aren't relevant anymore.

The guests are what's interesting in his videos. Joe Rogan is just the host, he doesn't talk that much, except on certain topics. He's more the guy that help the guests to talk. I have watched a small fraction of his videos, but he has wide range of guests: neurologists, astrophysicists, doctors, psychologist, sleep experts, etc. These people are usually recognized experts. I never got the impression that Rogan pretended to be an expert of anything. He's a good interviewer, because he listens a lot and he knows how to make guests comfortable enough to explain their ideas (and they have a lot of time to talk, unlike in TV interviews). Rogan is both confident and kind in the way he asks his questions, that gives a good frame for the guest to answer. All in all, he's much better than many journalists in the mainstream media (who are mostly editorialists, now).
