It's still astounding to me they didn't messed this up lol @Lilja K Even though I'm one of the less people who hadn't a good time during Top Gun 2 so there is that đ€Ł

Meryl Streep
I mostly agree with this đ @Lilja K Thereâs been a lot of talk about a possible film sequel to The Devil Wears Prada as Entertainment Weekly is confirming that the cast is in talks â and that means all four of the majors: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Also the original director, David Frankel, and the original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna. Do you want it? I mean, I donât not want it. But what would it look like? Sure, some of the story elements are still there...ish. Runway is Vogue and Vogue is still around. Miranda Priestley is Anna Wintour and Anna is still around. But in the 18 years since the film premiered, magazine publishing is not what it used to be. Understatement. Digital publishing isnât what it used to be either. Magazines and online publications are struggling. Part of what made The Devil Wears Prada fun was that it was a glimpse into the world of magazine publishing at its peak. Does that fun go away now, almost 20 years later, when everyone is on a f-cking budget and Runway/Vogue has downsized so much? Also, like so much of pop culture, what was socially acceptable as âbitchyâ comedy back then certainly does not work now. And âbitchyâ is basically The Devil Wears Pradaâs mood board. What might be interesting though, to me at least, is how the sequel might address workplace standards and how those have changed. Yes, yes, the fashion, the glamour, all of that was certainly what made the movie irresistible but at the heart of the story was the boss-assistant relationship between Miranda and Andy or, Ahhhhn-dreya, which is what Miranda called her. Miranda often abused her power, not unlike so many executives then â and still now. But back in 2006, we werenât talking about it in the mainstream. We werenât posting about sh-tty bosses on Twitter and TikTok. We just ate sh-t all day at work, and on the weekends, without extra pay. And vented to close friends but there really wasnât any outlet to put that frustration, and certainly no âquiet quittingâ, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. âQuiet quittingâ is very much a Gen Z thing. This generationâs approach to work is very much different from the ones that came before. Theyâre not going over to their bossâs place to deliver the book wellllll after working hours or chasing down the unpublished manuscript of the newest Harry Potter book. Instead theyâd probably post a TikTok and put their boss on blast for asking them to chase down a book written by a TERF. And that would go viral and maybe the boss would have to apologise publicly with a notes app statement on Instagram. Ironically, though, The Devil Wears Prada was the 2003 version of that scene â only Lauren Weisberger had to write a whole ass book, like 70,000 words, get a publisher to publish it, and change all the names! And it only made Anna Wintour MORE famous! But maybe thatâs where you set the story. Or maybe itâs Andy, who was trained in the old ways by Miranda, who canât get away with them now that sheâs in the same stage of her career that Miranda was in when we met her in the first movie. Thereâs something to play with there, and Iâm curious to see if thatâs the direction they go in. If they can get all these deals done. Right now, even though everyone is assuming itâs done, itâs happening, it sounds like theyâre still in negotiations. I would imagine a lot of that has to do with the story? None of these people NEED to make this movie. They have to want to make this movieâŠand that depends on what it is that the movie is trying to say.

In other Scott news. FINALLY!!! If you haven't seen the DC of "Kingdom of Heaven" but just the theatrically released version you haven't seen the right movie. Just sayin. Ridley Scott's 4-Hour âNapoleon: The Director's Cut' is Coming Soon Ridley Scott's âNapoleon: The Director's Cutâ is potentially coming very soon. It's just been rated R for strong violence, grisly images, sexual content, some nudity and language. This signifies clear intent on the part of Apple TV to make it available on their platform. In late August 2023, we had broken the news that Scott was working on a directorâs cut of âNapoleonâ and that it would clock in at over 4 hours. Itâs obviously piqued our interest since then. The theatrically released version had some narrative holes in it, and a directorâs cut could potentially cure that. Scott later told Total Film that it would be made available after the filmâs November release. He called his lengthier cut âFantasticâ ⊠Well, weâre still waiting, Ridley. Produced and financed by Apple, Scottâs epic reunited the filmmaker with Joaquin Phoenix as the European conquering emperor. It received mixed reviews from critics, but I actually liked the subversive way in which Scott told his story. I imagine the 4-hour cut is very different in terms of scope and tone. Scott is no stranger to âDirectorâs Cuts.â We all know about the multiple âBlade Runnerâ versions that exist. That film became a sci-fi classic only years after its release, when audiences discovered Scottâs originally intended version. Further, Scottâs Crusades epic, âKingdom of Heaven,â originally released in the summer of 2005 to negative reviews, had a new version released on DVD, which had more than an hour's worth of deleted footage. The result? A 210-minute cut with character development, less plot holes and a much-improved story. Hopefully, lightning will strike again with âNapoleon: The Directorâs Cutâ- Upcoming Movie News
