The first letter and the first meeting with Yennefer requires playing the Witcher 2 to understand the nuances. Yennefer refers to Geralt as "friend" and this references a situation in the novels. It also requires reading the novels to fully understand Yen's later reactions. The meeting with Emperor Emhir is altered as well.
