The 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Poor Irina Shayk, I don’t think she’ll try again but it must bother her a little that she didn’t get to reach that goal in her career.

The 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Has she been to the castings before? How come Hailey Clauson hasn’t been at the VSFS, wasn’t she a big deal in high fashion once?

2017 SI Swimsuit
Oh, I forgot to mention Irina, it seems like she might be a “mainstay” in the issue. I don’t mind that actually, she does have a great look and she knows how to be a sexy swimsuit model. On the other hand, I don’t think that she’ll get the cover again so her being in the issue might feel a bit redundant. I can’t help but wonder whether her best work is behind her. But then again, sometimes my interest in her is re-sparked. Oh, and I guess I forgot about Hannah Davis, too. Sadly, her modeling abilities really went down with that boob job. So I doubt I’d be sorry if she left SI.

Out of left field nice cover choice would be Rose Bertram perhaps? (She is a bit of a question mark for me because I’m fairly unfamiliar with her work for SI but e.g. her Instagram video “Stick talk” is great.) I was thinking of Vita before but those boobs… and the weight fluctuation… Samantha is big no for me. Robyn is too boring. No to Myla, she is a rookie, that’s enough. Lily, Chrissy, Nina and Hailey have all been on the cover already even though they had to share the spotlight and Ashley, too, of course. Well, it feels like Ashley didn’t have to share the spotlight, the big news was her being on the cover and on her first (official) year, too. Maybe if Sara Sampaio was still here, she’d be a cover contender but then again maybe not, too much association with VS by now. Emily Didonato, I think she’ll be stuck in the been-in-the-issue-year-after-year-but-never-gets-the-cover role. She is really pretty etc. but maybe doesn’t have enough obvious girl next door sex appeal. Erin, hmm, she is a mess, not really rooting for her, it’s big enough for her if she is back. Gigi, I wasn’t even thinking about her, I feel like she gets a little too many things. Her being on the cover would not be that big of a deal, she is already famous. And Bojana, no, just her being back is enough. Mia Kang making it in the issue from the model search is enough for her. So all in all, Hannah Ferguson would be a good choice as she has shot for SI for a few years and seems to have a pleasant enough personality. Maybe not the most sparkling personality but she doesn’t come across as arrogant and that’s the most important thing. Barbara getting the cover on her sophomore year might be a bit too soon. Third year would be ideal for her, have her work a little for it ;D and be a solid SI girl, not just Barbara the model and celebrity and idol but a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.

The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP
I just walked past At first I thought they had a fashion show because why would there be a shirtless man standing around in a department store but I think he was giving samples of a fragrance.

May I request an animated signature of Francisco Lachowski: Francisco Lachowski: 7Diamonds - Spring/Summer 2016 And an avatar (possibly a still one) of Kate Upton: Kate Upton by Bruce Weber for CR Fashion Book Thank you so much!

Now I understand why men are intimidated by beautiful women! I went to a store today that had a promotional event going on and there was a shirtless male model handing out some samples. I was too embarrassed to even really look at him.

It could also be the case that the industry has an agenda to say that “Instagirls” are paying off now i.e. making them a lot of money. The pendulum will probably shift to the other end in the future. Designers might then want “exclusivity” and not book models with a large number of followers on social media because that might be deemed too down-market and accessible.

Interesting! It could also hinge on what is your definition of a model. Do the modeling jobs go to pop stars in Asia and to Bollywood stars in India? On the other hand, actresses like Cara Delevingne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are still considered models in America and in Europe.

I do think the list could have some biases. I’m sure there are e.g. Asian and even Indian models making a lot of money in their domestic markets but no one knows them in Europe or in the USA so they are not included. Looking at the list of the highest-paid male models in 2013, I think Forbes was actually selling them short. Models made the top ten list with earnings that were below $300k. The director of Wilhelmina Men was interviewed for a little documentary and he gave some quotes on what male models make. He said that a mid-range strong catalogue model can make 250k-300k dollars a year. I think that number is correct because I remember reading about David Gandy that he was making $300k a year doing catalogue modeling when he decided he would only do editorials in an effort to change his career towards luxe. That was a tough spot for his agency at first (a model making $300k a year saying he isn’t going to do catalogue and commercial jobs anymore) but it obviously paid off. I think Forbes didn’t want to include those catalogue men on their list because catalogue modeling is not held in high esteem in the entertainment industry. Forbes would not want to write about models whose names no one has even heard of, which is the case for most if not all catalogue models. So I think they included only those men who did campaigns for prestigious designers or had at least one big client. The models’ agencies might not have let those models do a lot of catalogue and other commercial work in the hopes that they’d eventually score a big campaign for a high fashion designer. So their money came from doing a fragrance ad etc., which didn’t add up to super high earnings at the time. The same kind of thing might’ve happened to the girls i.e. some might be making a lot of money advertising for commercial brands but if they don’t have contracts with some high-end labels, Forbes was not interested in making a story about them. Forbes opted instead for the models who have made a name for themselves in high fashion and working for Victoria’s Secret whose contract models the public is the most aware of.

@Clauds Are you talking about some other models making more than 4 million in the period between June 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016, leaving aside any personal investments in financial instruments etc.? Regarding Gisele, she wouldn’t ever see that kind of money because the numbers are before fees and taxes.

Here’s what they write about Adriana and Alessandra: So I don’t think you can say for sure that Adriana has a significantly bigger Victoria’s Secret contract than Alessandra. Adriana’s other contacts are probably more lucrative then Alessandra’s.

So out of the current Victoria’s Secret Angels, these models made the Forbes list: No. 2 Adriana Lima No. 8 Candice Swanepoel No. 13 Alessandra Ambrosio No. 17 Lily Aldridge, Taylor Hill and Jasmine Tookes Martha Hunt and Josephine Skriver were mentioned as near misses. No mention of Behati Prinsloo, Elsa Hosk, Sara Sampaio or Stella Maxwell.
